Office Hours [all day]

May 15, 2012 12:00

Anakin was in his office with Juliet today, giving Rory a chance to be at home and nap without interruptions for snacks and playing and Dora--no, not that Dora, a different Dora...which was exactly what Juliet was doing to him ( Read more... )

Raven didn't have booze, but she possibly could give him more reasons to want to drink?

She hadn't told Anakin yet about her stupid brothers or what they'd tried to do at graduation, so she'd slipped away from Kaeleer (thus avoiding Lucivar's threatened lessons) to see if he'd be in his office that day. The door was closed, so she knocked and waited.

"Come in, Raven," Anakin called.

"HI!!!!!" Juliet added.

Fortunately between Anakin and Karla and other telepaths, Raven was used to being able to be identified before she even opened the door, and Raven herself could often tell based on someone's emotional signature, so that wasn't creepy at all.

"Hello, Juliet," Raven said, smiling at the girl as she came in. "Good morning, Professor Skywalker."

"How have you been?" Anakin asked, waving her to a chair.

"I have been well," Raven said as she sat down. "I have been spending a great deal of time in Kaeleer with Karla."

She cast a quick glance at Juliet; fortunately she never seemed troubled by what was being discussed near her. "The dream I had was indeed prophetic," she said. "My brothers came to graduation."

Anakin didn't want to make Juliet cry, so he kept his outrage dialed to a solid four rather than the twelve he longed for.

"Really."

"They failed in their plan, however," Raven said, multi-tasking and radiating calm despite the topic. "I tricked them, and Trigon, at least, is no longer a danger. He is trapped and powerless."

She would've preferred dead, but she'd take what she could get.

Anakin was having sympathy for Mace Windu and his idea for some people being too dangerous to be left alive. How would you even bring Trigon to trial?

"How did you trick them?" he asked.

"My brother who is Envy tricked me first by assuming Karla's form and luring me away," Raven admitted, still embarrassed she hadn't seen right through that immediately. "Wrath and Lust were also there. They attempted to draw power out of me to open a portal so that our father could pass through and enter this world again. But I drew upon the power of the sin of Greed and filled their hearts with it so that instead of freeing Trigon, they stole his power instead -- but they did not realize he had no power left. My father remained trapped and drained and my brothers left thinking they had been victorious. They must know by now that they received nothing from him."

"Your brothers have really stupid names," Anakin pointed out unnecessarily.

"Don't say stupid!" Juliet lectured.

"They have human names as well; they choose to identify as their Sin," Raven said, giving Juliet a gentle smile. Despite the admonishment, she had to agree her brothers were stupid.

Her smile faded a little as she thought about how her body had reacted upon deceiving her brothers. "After they departed I became very ill for a few days," she said. "I thought perhaps it was because of the power they tried to take from me, but such a thing has happened once before, so now I find myself wondering if it was something I did, not them, but I have no safe way to test this theory."

"When did it happen before?" Anakin asked, frowning.

"Last year," Raven said, scarcely able to believe it had been that long ago. "I traveled with Rinoa and Squall to their world and helped them against an evil sorceress. I thought she had killed Jono and became enraged. I attempted to rip her Pride from her, and afterwards I became very ill. This time it was Greed, but both are Sins. I think perhaps if I attempt to embrace that aspect of my powers too strongly, my body rejects it. But I cannot test this without possibly bringing harm to another."

Anakin nodded thoughtfully. "It would make sense that your body would fight something like that off like it would an infection."

"The first time I was not thinking rationally," Raven said, "though this second it was the only option I saw at the time. It is not something I ever intend to ever do lightly, however, and not just because it seems to make me ill. It is an abuse of my gifts. I just wish I knew for certain that this was not merely a coincidence. My Soul-Self protects me from illness, so something that does make me sick is cause for concern."

"And using this kind of power could be seen as trying to harm your soul..." Anakin said thoughtfully, "so it might make sense for this to make you vulnerable."
