Bad Review of Thrist 1 at the Book on the Hill
I didn't find this book much exciting unfortunately... The legeng about the vampires' birth that is told here is very interesting, and Alisa's vampire capabilities are original. The fact that she's been 'alive' for 5000 years also has its interest. I've always loved the 'immortal' side of the vampires, I've always thought that it gave some depth to the characters and stories. We discover scraps of things she lived throughout the centuries (her meeting with Plato, her life as a princess in the Middle Ages,...), and I loved that. But I felt like it wasn't sufficiently exploited, given the fact that I found her past lives more interesting than the story itself.
I thought the time treatment was weird and not quite believable, and that many things weren't really logical : Alisa's relationship with Ray, her contradictory principles,... I didn't really become attached to Alisa, maybe because of the tone which I found cold and clinical. At times, I felt more empathy towards the baddies than the protagonists.
Overall, I wasn't hooked nor bored. I just read it without really enjoying it. And this book did not stir my curiosity regarding the sequels.
I recommend it to vampire fans, particularly those who enjoy the immortal part.
