Is There Life on Mars?

Warning: this is a free-write rant. It's full of tangents, and it's not necessarily well-structured. But it's fun.

I certainly hope there's life on Mars, or somewhere out there in the universe. Cause the life on this planet doesn't have long to go.

(1) It's a god-awful small affair to the girl with the mousy hair. But her mummy is yelling "No," and her daddy has told her to go. But her friend is nowhere to be seen; now she walks through her sunken dream...to the seat with the clearest view, and she's hooked to the silver screen.

But the film is a saddening bore, for she's lived it ten times or more.
She could spit in the eyes of fools, as they ask her to focus on...

...things that don't matter. People Magazine. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Britney Spear's shaved head, etc. All of the shiny shit that's blind-sided the masses. We are no longer aware of the world outside our Brave New World, our plastic dystopia, our Barbie Dreamhouse.

(2) The old farmroad's a forelane that leads to the mall, and our dreams are all guillotines waiting to fall.

I want a white-picket fence. Don't you? And a man who makes money. I want my own little world. In a maze of other subdivisions that I don't even know exist, because I don't walk outside my own door. I only drive. My SUV.

(2) We live by denial like lambs to the slaughter - serving empires of style and carbonated sugar-water.

Sheep should be insulted when people compare ourselves to them. We flock towards our paternal leaders, stuffed with empty foods that pretend to fill the void in our soul, and doped up on the opiate that we turn to for the "truth." We smile and go about our business, and eagerly await our own destruction. We're more like lemmings. Or at least how Walt Disney portrayed lemmings.

I live in my world. You live in yours. If I happen upon a situation that I deem morally reprehensible, I do not have to think further about it. It doesn't affect me. You don't affect me. If you hurt someone, it's their fault for not taking proper actions to prevent the situation, or not stopping it from perpetuating. Poor people must pull themselves up from deep within the fissures of society, without anyone's aid. I am not a witness to your pain; your pain is your own. I am not a witness at all. I am blind. I am numb. I do not pretend to be a compassionate human being; I do not believe in altruism.

Civilization is the progress toward a society of privacy. The savage's whole existence is public, ruled by the laws of his tribe. Civilization is the process of setting man free from men.
Ayn Rand

(Ayn Rand: A woman whose brilliance was wasted on developing a creed of individualism - a creed that, by necessity, destroys the very foundations of humanity.)

I refuse to be a witness. I refuse to see. Wrap me up in your blanket of denial. Let me see the glitter of the diamond, not the blood that was washed away from it. I'll wear it on my finger as a symbol of love.
