Didn't You Know? Pro-Choicers are Misogynists.

This is in response to someone writing on MySpace's Socialist Party Forum about abortion.

Because society gives different rules to men and women. The woman is labeled a slut, whore, and sinner and most are young with little support from the world when they have the child. The men are able to run away from the problem, leaving the women to bare full responsibility of the child, who often sacrifices their future plans. Unfortunately, many "men" do not carry the burden. By getting an abortion women conform to the "man's world". They don't really have a true choice, because the choice is dictated by all the factors listed above, societal perception and lack of support."

As a radical feminist woman, I am insulted by the suggestion that a woman choosing to have a life without children (sometimes by having an abortion) is conforming to a "man's world." So therefore legislators (mostly men) should impose rules to prevent women from conforming to a "man's world?" It's our choice!

I am allergic to spermicide, and I have bad physical reactions to hormonal birth control methods. I can only use a condom, and I've had many scares. I REFUSE to have a child at such an important time in my life where I want to be able to travel, learn, and take on a career which may require a huge time commitment that wouldn't be fair to a child. This is MY CHOICE, not any man's. This has nothing to do with being labeled a "slut, " "whore, " or "sinner, " as I have been brought up by two radical feminist parents who taught me that none of those words mean shit. Sometimes when people use those words towards me, I just don't care, and sometimes I'm even complimented, since I developed my own meaning for those words (and I believe the concept of "sin" is BS anyway).

I am willing to use abortion as a last resort, because I'm putting myself and my life ahead of a clump of cells. I'm not talking about a fetus, or even an embryo. This is a creature with a nervous system less complex than that of a gnat's. This world has so many unwanted, abused children in it already, but I don't see anyone making one billionth a big deal out of that than about abortions. Forcing a woman to go through with a pregnancy is not up to anyone but that woman. And frankly, any man who thinks he believes in women's rights and then says he is "pro-life" should try having a uterus for the rest of his life before he imposes any more of his BS moral judgment on me.

If you'd like to learn more about my position on this, especially regarding what I think about actual embryos and even fetuses, please read:
