Life in NYC:

Internship at Astralwerks is going well. I like the people I'm working with, and I feel like I'm learning a lot about the process that is releasing an album. The overwhelming part at first was learning all the codes and terms for everything. It's a language all in itself. The internship is unpaid, but I think it's definitely going to be worth it for the experience... and I've gotten about 100 free CDs and LPs.

Temping is what I do to make money. It has worked out surprisingly well; the jobs pay anywhere from $10-23/hr, and they are usually brief assignments that work around my internship schedule. I've grown to really enjoy temp work, actually. I like going into a place I know nothing about and doing something I would otherwise never do for a few days. It's good experiene and gives me a glimpse into all these worlds I didn't know existed.

The living situation has been a trip. My apartment is in the West Village, which is a happening place. It's where everyone who likes fun and is our age wants to be. The problem is, my apartment is also extremely small (no, you don't understand, it's sooo small) and not air-conditioned. So that sucks. As for the people I live with, it's pretty funny. I live with a woman named Milly who does marketing for the history channel, and Mario (aka Perez of www.perezhilton.com). Milly is awesome; she likes all the same music I do and is just so much fun. I haven't really gotten to know Mario though. He seems like a nice guy, but living with him is awkward b/c he doesn't really make an effort to get to know me... at all. It's still fun though to have him as my roommate b/c of his celebrity status. Anyway... when I'm not at my apartment, I crash with Carey who is "apartment-sitting" (subletting for free?) his rich older cousin's upper west side disgustingly amazing apartment. We're talking a grand piano, 3 full bathrooms, several guest bedrooms... the works. Oh, and it has AC.

People-wise it's been entertaining. I've seen a million CTYers (Bara, Jon Good, Mer, Dot, Samantha, Alex Steingart and more) and a few people from home/Scripps. I'm amazed at how many people Carey and I have run into that we know just on the street.

Anyway overall I'm really happy here and it's been the most entertaining summer in years. We'll see how the next month and a half goes, and then I can't believe I'm going back to school to be a senior and graduate. holy crap.
