Sister Esther Blanchett’s story really begins in Albion. She is in actuality the granddaughter of the Queen of Albion. Being born to Prince Gilbert, the girl suffer from the loss of her father by assassination. Fearing that the assassins were going to go after her, Esther was brought to Istvan for her safety. There the girl was raised by Bishop Laura Vitez who loved her like a daughter.
Seventeen years later, the girl grew into a young woman and Father Abel Nightroad accidentally ran into her…literally. At the time, she was dressed as a man to smuggle drugs with her friend Dietrich. Later that evening, Esther and Abel meet again… this time, she is dressed in her normal outfit: a sister’s gown. It became apparent to the priest that Esther is a sister of the church he is currently visiting. The red haired girl asks him not to reveal what she was doing to the bishop.
Later that night, the church was attacked by a vampire. Esther watches in horror as the Methuselah, the race which we would call vampires, killed the church people. She bear witness to Abel fighting off the vampire before she is knocked unconscious. She is later revived. Gyula, the Methuselah who controls the city of Istvan, orders and attack on the church. In a massive bombing, all the residents of the church are killed save for Esther and Abel. In grief and anger, the two of them storm Gyula’s castle and they fight against the vampire.
In a twist of fate, Dietrich appears and it turns out that he had betrayed Esther. In her disbelief and confusion, the puppet master tricked Esther into shooting Father Nightroad. Abel was about to survive the attack and went on the offensive against Gyula. Esther ran after Dietrich to stop him from activating the “Star of Sorrow” which would wipe out the city of Istvan. Esther gets the self-destruct code from Dietrich and returns to see that Gyula is defeated and dying. He reveals his motivation for what he was doing and Esther is moved by his words of regret and his sorrow for the death of his wife, who died because she was married to a vampire.
Esther learns that Dietrich lied to her about the self-destruct code and Abel had to destroy the entire station to stop the “Star of Sorrow”. After the conflict, Sister Esther journeys with Father Nightroad and Father Tres to Rome. Along the way, she experience more adventures as the trio face off against monsters. Eventually, they arrived at Rome safely.
Esther stayed at the Vatican for six months to become a full-fledged sister of the Roman Catholic Church. She eventually re-unites with Father Nightroad while she fights off a vampire attack on the church. She ends up becoming partners with AX special agents, the church organization which Father Abel and Father Tres works for. Her first mission as part of AX: a secret meeting between Cardinal Caterina Sforza with the Empire to discuss an alliance.
While on this mission, the building the Cardinal was in was attacked with a fire bomb. Accidentally thinking the secret Methuselah envoy was the assassin, Father Tres shoots him. Ion Fortuna, the envoy, is wounded and escapes. After Esther and Abel tracked him down, it becomes apparent that someone else was behind this so that a war between the Vatican and the Empire could happen by killing off Catherina and Ion.
It turns out that Radu, Ion’s most trusted partner, betrayed him. After several fights between the trio, the Inquisition squad, the city police, and the traitor to the empire, the fight supposedly ends with Father Abel revealing his Crusnik form and scaring Esther. After it was learned that Radu activated a sandstorm that will wipe out the city they were in, Father Nightroad went to stop the machine controlling the sandstorm while Ion, Tres, and Brother Petros fought off Radu and his henchmen. Esther follows after Father Nightroad.
After a climatic battle, Radu dies and Ion mourns his foolish friend. Abel and Esther were able to stop the sandstorm by Esther declaring that Abel was not scary nor a monster. This lifts a great burden off of the priest and together, they turn off the sandstorm machine since it requires the hand of a Terran (human) and a Crusnik ( evolved vampire).
After several more missions that dealt with betrayal, underhanded dealings, and treason, Esther returns to Istvan where she is given the title “Lady Saint”. In another adventure of betrayal, Archbishop Alfonso d’Este attempts to assassinate the Pope to start a war with the Empire. Since his city is on the border between the Vatican and the Empire, he would be the most likely choice to control the Vatican army during the war. Capturing the Methuselah Shahra, he forces her to killing the Lady Saint and the Pope. Shahra betrays the archbishop by kidnapping Esther and informing her of the archbishop’s pot. After being labeled a traitor, Esther eventually brings the archbishop’s plan to light. This results in another massive battle. In the end, the only way the city to regain peace and return to normal is for Shahra to die. Forcing the Lady Saint to shoot her, Shahra dies with a smile on her face and tells a crying Esther, “I love you, Esther. Thank you for being my friend… Tovarish (partner).”
CHARACTER PERSONALITY:
Esther is a strong-willed girl. She is very friendly and has made friends with several Methuselah. This is unheard of since most humans are afraid of the vampires. Esther knows that not all vampires are evil as not all humans are good. She strives to being true peace to the world by showing that co-existence between the two species is possible.
Esther is very emotional. She tends to cry and shout when she feels the need to. She knows how to openly express her grief and her friendship to people. Many people respect her for being the Lady Saint while she despises the title. She feels sicken by the memory that to maintain peace, she had to assume the title of Lady Saint and kill her friend, Shahra.
Esther has romantic feelings for Father Nightroad even though she refuses to admit them. Most people notice this affection and Father Nightroad’s affection for her even though both people are oblivious to it. This does not stop people like Ion or Dietrich from expressing their love for Esther.
Her main weakness is her main strength: she trusts people. Even after all the betrayal she has suffered, Esther still believes in people and tries to be their friend. People like Dietrich uses this weakness and exploits her for his own gain. Despite all this, Esther will pray for her enemy when they die.
WORLD: An Earth where Terrans and Methuselahs are at a fragile treaty with one another where another Apocalyptic war could break out at a moment’s notice.
