Running Behind

...If it takes all night, that'll be alright...

Her writing was miniscule in order to preserve as much of the limited paper in the dayplanner as possible, but she found that she wasn't as focused on deciphering as she should be anyway.

Several nights had passed now, deep under this mountain, with more ample time to speak at length with some of the others. It made her less restless. Since rising, since understanding that there was no more of the old world before them...no more Camarilla, Sabbat, Anarch Movement. No more Justicars, Archons or Princes, then wistfully, no more Brujah. They were gone, but the depth of her love for them was not.

Every night she found she remembered more. Resurfacing memories of everything that made her so fond of the blood, and sometimes particular fondnesses. Although she hadn't been able to identify it at first, it was distressing to her on a very deep level that there were none here with which she shared a commraderie. None with whom she might linger away the night with whispers and discussions.

How could there be? A bunch of predators thrown together in a cave like a lotto mixer - bound together by their mutual desire to at least survive this, pushed apart by natural distrust and ancient, hard-forgotten hatreds and grudges. The environment was tenuous at best.

Even still the fresh breath of a world free from the society that once was, in all its facets, was something that invigorated her - something that she wished to discuss ponderously, longed to explore patiently and attentively, like a gardener who tenderly lingers his affections on a singularly perfect blossom.

Perhaps the power of this longing is what made the particular memory of that one faint smile so impressed within her mind. It gave her hope after all that perhaps the only kindred with whom she could possibly share this experience would not simply disappear into the night, never looking back.

She wished to know who these kindred were; they instinctively kept their cards close to their breast. Yet there were all here together, and there was no one else, at least not right now. The world before them was a blank as a new book and this was the great adventure and that was what she was looking for...those with whom to share it.

That was what she wanted to see.

...if I can get you to smile before I leave...
