I Wish I Had More Time

Originally uploaded by sisterbean I wish I had more time to tell you all the wonderful things I loved about my grandfather. He was a goofy man. He was tight with money, but generous with his love. He could engineer it with senior discounts and double coupons and instore specials such that the grocery store would have to pay him to take their toilet paper, yet he would bail any of his grandkids out of a financial jam in a heartbeat.

He always managed to make me feel like I was the most important person in the world when he greeted me. He loved to joke.

He danced at my sister's wedding with me, walker and all.

His blue eyes, even after the macular degeneration took most of his sight, never lost their devilish twinkle. I can see them when I look in the mirror.

He's gone now, to join his dance partner. They will be dancing the rumba in eternity. He slipped away yesterday in the wee hours of the morning, with his son and his daughter by his side.

I will miss him, although at 92 years old, I don't expect he regretted anything. I know he enjoyed this life, as we enjoyed having him here with us.
