Yesterday was Daniel's second birthday.  He celebrated the occasion by showing us some hitherto unsuspected talents.  In the morning, out of the blue, he chanted the entire "Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed" rhyme, complete with rambunctious arm waving and finger wagging ("No more monkeys jumping on the bed!").  Then in the afternoon, he sang me most of the alphabet song, in order.  I was really surprised that he knew it, since it is not something we make a big deal of or even sing to him that often.  Unfortunately, whenever I get the camera out to record him, he decides he doesn't want to do it any more.  Oh well.

The rest of the day was just lovely, too.  We took advantage of the still-cool weather to walk to the supermarket in the morning, and shared a muffin after we did our shopping.  Then there were pb&j sandwiches for lunch, then nap time, and then Amos took Daniel out to the park and aquatic center while I cleaned and cooked and frosted cupcakes.

Ellen, Chris, and Auntie Ducky came to dinner (some of D.'s favorite people, and ours too!) and then we sang to him and let him smear green frosting all over his face, and then presents.  He got some cute little toys (duplos and a magnet writing tablet and some blocks that float in the tub) and some books (including a sweet little shepherd-themed prayer book and two from Amos's boss at the tutoring center, who is possibly the most generous man in the world).  It was just so nice.  He spent the whole day today dumping the duplos out of the box, playing with them for a little while, taking each piece apart, and then putting them back into the box.

At bed time I sang him all of his favorite songs, gave him a nice long "huggle" and told him about the day he was born.  He is so precious; it is such a miracle watching him grow up!
