I really kind of totally want to write genderswap Star Trek: AOS fic based on this recasting. (Alternate movie poster here, and oh does it look bloody amazing or what?)
(I'm a sucker for stories that are total genderswaps --
ilyat is doing one for FF7 that I'm very excited about, and I have huge ♥ ♥ for FMA stories in which Hawkeye is the only man in the office of Colonel Mustang -- but this one in particular is awesome, and as far as I'm concerned the alternate casting was spot-on. And frankly, since everyone goes 'Starfleet is in The Future! Therefore they don't have our 20th century gender relation problems!', it'd be fascinating to write a story that assumed that was true, set the whole thing on a ship with the command staff as full of women as the actual series/movie was full of men, and see what happens. ...And then I start to extrapolate: does that mean that Spock's mother would be the solemn and well-respected Vulcan ambassador who taught him rigor, and his father the gentle human presence who [tried to] teach him the expressions of emotion and love? And and and.)
