This is a very nice meme. Here’s how it works:
1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. You will update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.
Skwashy interviewed me as follows:
1. If money were no object, and you could retire right now to any city on Earth, where would you go? Part B: What would you do there?
San Francisco, to be near you and my friends. Then, money being no object, I'd immediately leave and mostly retrace the trip to Europe from my youth, get my heart broken to see all the Pizza Huts that have sprung up since then, come home. I'd put together a studio where you and I and Jessica could do art things, ceramics, drawing and painting and jewelry (for Jess). I'd take classes in drawing and ceramic sculpture and literature. We'd become accomplished enough to have shows all over the world, requiring more travel. You and I write and publish a book along the lines of Strange Toys, incorporating our childhoods, and 12 year old girls everywhere are tremendously inspired.
2. If you could re-do your life by returning to any particular time during your life (for example, age 3), knowing what you know now, what age would you go back to? Would you like to stay there, reliving it and fixing things as you go along, or would you like to just drop in at a particular point and come back right away? What would you do first?
I think I'd go back to age 14, which I think of as my last innocent year. As much as I'd prefer not to re-do all those years at school, I'd stay in that time not only to help the family but for the joy of having that much more time to be alive. One proviso; I get to give birth to my daughter again. The thing I'd do first would be to talk to Paul about his drug use, maybe get him away from Alex somehow? I'd be a true friend to him and to you. I'd talk to Mama about her drinking and help everyone talk to each other about these things in the family.
3. What instrument would you take up now if you could become expert at it after one year of study? What would you do with this new expertise?
Does voice count? I'd warble and trill like a mockingbird in choruses and lounges everywhere. I'd perform in Carmina Burana in a touring company that can time travel to medieval Germany.
4. If you had a choice of being able to fly and being able to make yourself invisible, what would you choose?
The only purpose that being invisible would serve would be to intrude where I truly don't belong. Why do people want to do this? Usually to serve the murky agendas of the ego, I suspect. So, yes, absolutely I'd fly FLY F L Y! Wingless, with the ability to go at any speed and to carry large people with me.
5. In "The Gate to Women's Country," each woman has an art, a science and a craft that they work on developing for their whole lives. What are yours?
The art would be ceramic sculpture, the science would be quantum physics, what the craft would be is a secret. But I have an answer, so I didn't break the rules.
