real nappies: 3 weeks in

So, a while back I did an inventory of the nappies we'd collected... at 3 weeks, our daughter is now 8 1/2 lbs, which means there's only so much longer that the prowraps that have been our mainstay will fit her. and meanwhile, there's a couple pound gap before the next wraps fit. And, to update: I bowed to "ooh, shiny" and bought a Modern Baby Pop-in trial pack.

I thought we'd wash nappies every day, but it's worked out to be every other day... we've also gone through 3 nappy buckets so far (the free one was big enough for nappies AND laundry, but someone didn't like keeping them all in one bin, we then bought a smart nappy bucket and it's better suited size-wise as a trash bin for all the cotton balls we use, and finally bought a 25L kitchen bin which seems to be just the right size for 2 days worth of newborn nappies...)

So far, we've tried:
1)shaped nappies with wraps. the everyday option. It seems to work, but at 3am last night and/or the night before, I had a moment or two of "omg this sucks" regarding this combo... most of the time I don't mind it, however, and it certainly doesn't suck enough to prematurely switch to a different system (though we will probably get birth-to-potty nappies, when we need to buy more...)

2)Fuzzi Buns. So far so good, I definitely like the convenience of the pocket nappy, and the quickness that it washes. No leaks or anything yet.

3)Smart Nappy. Mixed results- she had plumbers crack with the newborn size (she was 7-ish lbs at the time, so fits 4 to 11 lbs, hah!), but the small wrap seems to work rather well (though she was a bit damp this morning, probably due to the 4 hour sleep she had and the fact that she goes copiously-- I counted, and she seems to go at least 12 times a day...). Am thinking about getting a few more in this size, though I am a bit worried about how long the small will fit her (nominally up to 13lbs...). Still more convenient at times than the shaped option...

4)prefolds. We also tried the prefolds a few times, using the oragami folding thing, and once using the "fold the prefold any-which way and stick it in the wrap" method. That one leaked, but I may have over folded the prefold. More experimentation needed. Folding generally was no more or less leaky than the shaped option, but the hassle factor was enough that we only occasionally use these...

The Prowraps leave red marks if we fasten too tightly, but leak if any of the inner is sticking out (hence being careful to fasten tightly...) In today's internet reviews, I have just read that wraps don't HAVE to leave red marks... so we may or may not stick to this type of wrap...

We haven't tried the Pop-in yet, because we only found out yesterday that she was big enough for it... we were all excited, went to put it on her, and she peed as I was doing up the velcro!
