Yui could definitely be categorized as an idiot-savant. She is very easily distracted and clumsy, but when she manages to really put her mind to something, she really shines. This is most evident in her ability with the guitar. Despite having basically no musical background whatsoever, her newfound love for her guitar and her band drives her to work hard to learn to play well: a necessary action, considering the band's lofty goal of someday playing Budoukan.
One would only need to watch the show for about five minutes to deduct that Yui's attention span leaves much to be desired. Indeed, it may sound like she joined the Light Music Club because she wanted to eat cake, rather than that she had a real interest in learning the guitar, but this is not true. Admittedly, cake was a huge perk, but other moments really drive home how much she loves her guitar (which she has given the pet name "Giitah"). She's stayed up late practicing, and come to school early to practice-her enthusiasm surprises many. One of the stranger things about her guitar skill is that she has very little knowledge of technical terms, or how to describe exactly what she's doing-she just does it. To the astonishment of the other girls, she also has perfect pitch.
Yui describes herself as someone who likes sweets and cute things. These are her greatest weaknesses, and her biggest detriments to focusing on her instrument. On the flip side, it is extremely easy to convince her to do basically anything if the promise of sweets awaits her after the fact. It's been noted by her friends and bandmates that she has "no sense of embarrassment"-she will dress up in weird outfits or talk to unfamiliar people and not feel even a twinge of self-consciousness.
Despite being seemingly airheaded and largely irresponsible, Yui is a very sweet girl and cares a great deal about her friends. Though she is often oblivious, she will go out of her way to make her fellow club members feel loved and wanted. Because she is often overly emotional about things, sometimes she is the one who needs to be comforted, but due to her attention span it doesn't take much to divert her focus to something else. If you can look past her childlike demeanor and her tendency to space out, Yui is one of the best friends a girl could have.
