Personality: Ever hear of the Woobie? Crona is practically the living definition of this trope.
Crona is being outfitted by her* mother as the ultimate weapon, created for the slaughter and consumption of human souls which will someday turn her into a kishin, or a Demon God. When she was a child, her mother instructed her to kill small animals as a base for the madness of the kishin, which you can imagine did wonderful things for Crona's psyche. When she was disobedient, her mother locked her away in a dark room for days at a time, leaving her with nothing but the darkness in both her mind and soul for comfort.
Oh. There's also Ragnarok to keep her company, but she can't really deal with all the noogies and nose-poking and threats to eat all of her food. Ragnarok is a loud, vulgar, and playfully violent entity living inside of Crona's black blood (see the Abilities section for a more detailed explanation), often picking on and teasing her every chance he gets. Ragnarok acts like something of a big brother to Crona and protects her when necessary, probably because of their symbiotic relationship-- if Crona dies, Ragnarok dies as well. However, Ragnarok does seem to care for the girl at least a little bit, as shown by healing her wounds for her when she's injured. Perhaps they're forced to like one another after spending their entire lives together.
It's important to note that Crona hates fighting, and usually has to be coerced into it by Medusa (by magical means) or Ragnarok (noogies). While under Medusa's control, Crona becomes highly unstable as a result of the black blood, showing off her madness with aggression and senseless babbling ("Do you want to know where the real Hell is hiding? It's inside your head."). In this state she is a formidable fighter, showing off her prowess as a Meister with superhuman strength and agility, even giving Professor Stein and Death Scythe a run for their money when they encountered her in Italy. In episode 20 ("The Black Blood Resonance Battle! - A Small Soul's Grand Struggle against Fear?"), Crona reveals her fears to Maka: "Because I'm always scared. If I get stronger and more powerful I'll be able to deal with things better. And Lady Medusa will abandon me if I don't become a kishin! If I don't get stronger I'll always be afraid!"
Madness aside, Crona is timid and extremely submissive, and doesn't know how to deal with people, especially other girls ("I don't know how to talk to girls..."). She's incredibly negative and depressing, and often expresses her inability to adapt with her catchphrase ("I don't know how to deal with _____"). Because of the torture of being isolated her whole life, Crona is always nervous and jumpy over the tiniest little things, and frightens quite easily. This makes it difficult for her to interact with other people and make friends, even after joining Shibusen and becoming apart of Maka's group. In episode 21 ("May My Soul Reach You - A Dry Heart inside Unbearable Isolation?"), after Maka reads Crona's wavelength, it is revealed that the real source behind Crona's madness is the neglect she suffered as a child, which causes her to be skittish around and withdraw from other people ("It's not that you don't know how to deal with people... it's that no one ever took the time to deal with you", according to Maka).
