Character Personality:
Mairu is Kururi, and Kururi is Mairu. At the same time, Mairu is not Kururi, and Kururi is not Mairu. That is their basic way of life. Okay, wait, what? That sounds pretty retarded, doesn’t it? Unsurprisingly, that is practically the same reaction people have when they meet these two siblings. Much like most of the Durarara! nutso cast, these two girls have a very “unique” personality, not only separately but also when they are together. To explain how Mairu’s personality works, you have to see how the twins work. So lets start with that.
The most important thing is the twins’ desire want to be “human”. That is the twins’ ultimate goal. They’re about as weird as their brother Izaya who happens to love humans more than anything else. Their weirdness comes from their dream to be the perfect personification of what it means to be a human. According to Izaya, Mairu and Kururi believed that because they were twins, they should also be the same person. And so, to do that, they decided to have completely different personalities. Quite literally. It didn’t say when but it’s assumed that they started dividing these qualities around elementary school age. They flipped a coin to decide on who would get which looks and and what personalities. That was it. That was how they became the people that they are now. No experiences to help them grow or nothing. They believed that this method would lead them to be “something more than all of the other humans” as Izaya pointed out.
It was decided that Mairu would be the energetic one of the two. She had no problem voicing out whatever thought that would race through her head, and those thoughts would be a-plenty. The worst thing was that they had no limit. At all. For example, on the first day of class, she introduced herself in this way:
"My name's Orihara Mairu! Ori as in origami, Hara as in fields of grass, Mai-Ru as in losing yourself in a dance. Nice to meet you all! I like reading encyclopedias and manga and adult magazines!"
Speaking of adult magzines, she wasn’t afraid to read porn in class either. She just sat there, commenting on the nude figures to the poor, embarrassed kid next to her. Mairu couldn’t help but laugh.
Maybe the personality was not completely unique (we all know a brash figure or two, right?), but it’s never consistent with the rest of what made Mairu. It was completely random. Take a look at the appearance. Mairu acquired the “liberal arts school girl” look. It seemed like it would make more sense for her to be wearing the gym uniform but instead, it went to her stoic sister. She didn’t wear any make-up, she wore glasses and braided pigtails, and sported a long skirt with her uniform. When you compared her to the sister whose bust was popping out of that gym shirt, it was a wonder just how “this” girl had a personality like “that”.
But even the personality wasn’t consistent! In person, sure it stayed the same, but that was completely different when she was “Mai”. Mai was her online persona whenever she ahd her sister decided to pop in. The irony of it was that they were completely opposite of what they were life offline. In a chat room, Kururi would type paragraphs of wisdom and flowery phrases, extending her sentences with as much detail as possible. Mairu would end up typing “LOL”. And that was pretty much it. That was all. The chatterbox in real life completely flipped herself online, and there really was no explanation for it besides “that’s what the coin decided”.
It was funny to see how twisted they were when they were born to normal parents. According to Izaya, the Orihara parents were pretty normal. No problems, nothing crazy...the three kids were just lucky enough to have a nice set of parents. Izaya admitted that he became messed up on his own, but what was it that made Kururi and Mairu this way? More than likely, it was the influence of their older brother.
Their love for him was uhh...okay, maybe calling it love was wrong. In fact, it didn’t seem like they loved him at all! For example, Mairu called him a bastard without hesitation. She also had no problem with the idea of Shizuo beating Izaya to little pieces of dogfood. They knew that Izaya was Izaya aka a giant douchebag so they probably couldn’t give him any sympathy. Whatever the case, they didn’t seem to have the best relationship with him. Izaya even admitted to Namie that he didn’t get along with his sisters. Whatever the case, Mairu and Kururi apparently disliked Izaya.... but at the same time, they still considered him their brother. After all, the two continuded to call him “Iza-nii” even though he was a buttmunch. So perhaps there was a bit of love there...maybe some kind of violent hate-love relationship... maybe..
So last but not least, although Mairu and Kururi have different personalities from each other, equally divided, you have to remember that Mairu is still Kururi and Kururi is still Mairu. You cannot see one without the other. They cannot exist without the other. if they are not together, they are not a person. They are only half. Incomplete. Thus, you’ll never find them in a separate position. Online, offline, bathroom, kitchen, sleeping, wherever. They are a single person, but they are still a set of twins.
Character Abilities:
She’s really just a normal human so she doesn’t have anything like magical powers or magical weapons with giant robots and the like. However, to say she lacks any sort of abilities is wrong. Maybe saying she’s magical would be a bit too much, but that’s not her only strengths.
For one, she is physically strong. She can leap across a classroom with ease, for example. She can also hold down a girl her size as well as drag her off. So her strength is pretty good for a girl her age AND she’s flexible enough to do incredible feats.
She can also threaten you if she needs to, and she’s not afraid to do so. This could be an ability all on its own. It’s like Mairu had a strange sort of courage that many others couldn’t have. Whatever it was, she didn’t abuse it at least. Mairu doesn’t seem like she’ll do this sort of thing to anyone random unless you wronged her or her sister ... or if your name was Orihara Izaya. She isn’t a bully, really. However, if you try to mess with the twins, she can and will hold a box of tacks to your face. You might even lose a bra in the process.
Mairu also knows how to get the information that she wants. Whether it’s threatening or observing or just asking flat-out, she will find a way to get what she needs to know. She doesn’t do it professionally like Izaya, however, nor could it be considered a “talent”. There just doesn’t seem to be a personal interest in information gathering. For her, it’s just to grab whatever she needs at the moment, but she just happens to be good enough at it.
Outside of that, other abilities and skills will be completely random as they come. Whatever it is that they run into, she and Kururi will divide it evenly between each ther and they will never deviate from it. That itself could be a skill because whatever they quality that they decide to acquirel, they will eventually master it. It might take some time, but they will. They really could be the perfect human combined.
Character Weaknesses:
For one, although it’s mentioned that she’s physically strong, she is also a human. No human is physically immune to immense physical pain (well, unless your name is Shizuo). So if she is shot with a bullet, she can die. Anything that can kill a human (sans anime physics i.e. man that gets punched by Shizuo goes flying in the air and loses his clothes) can kill Mairu.
Another thing that could hinder her a bit is her...extreme personality. She’s not afraid of porn, bras, or anything else rated XXX, so people might end up being put off by her crude words. On top of that, she has a brash and loud personality that could turn MORE people off. This will probably make it harder for people to get closer to her and also quite difficult to find a decent partner.
She also cannot exist without Kururi. Although they have different classes and can be apart, they have to also “exist together”. If she knew that Kururi was gone, Mairu wouldn’t be able to be a whole human. She would end up being a shell, only being half of what she could be. The reaction for that could be quite terrible.
In Soul Campaign, she’ll be a set of weapons (if allowed). So to make her even more difficult to find a parnter, she will demand that her meister carry both her AND Kururi. If her meister can’t resonate with both, she won’t do it. Absolutely not.

Why your character should be a Weapon:
Because I have three meisters. LOL, okay, let us be serious here. Mairu and Kururi are twins that need to work together. Because they have divided themselves, they need to be together to be one person. Meisters can’t do that sort of thing in Soul Campaign, but weapons would be able to do that. That’s an out of character reason, anyhow.
Truth be told, she really could be either (sort of like Patti Thompson). It’s actually easier to make her lean towards the meister side. She’s physically strong like a meister. She’s not afraid to carry someone into battle and take on that responsibility of raising someone to be strong. So that’s exactly why she should be a weapon! Wait, what? Well, that’s who she is. There is never a solid reason as to why she is who she is. It’s just like the fact that her appearance doesn’t match her personality. Nothing should really make sense. It’s just another flip of the coin.
But there are some reasons as to why she could be a weapon anyway. She is the sort of person that would not attack without a good reason (just like how a weapon should be properly used). Also, she would not be afraid of being naked inside of the weapon. ( :| ) Also, since Izaya is a meister, she would want to be the opposite (being something that could stab him is also nic--JUST KIDDING). Really, being a weapon with Kururi reflects their ultimate goal. Together, as weapons, they will grow to be the perfect weapon just like they strive to be the perfect person. Although they are separate weapons, with their meister, they’ll be able to grow together as one even though their looks/abilities are completely different. Thus this fits them perfectly.
What is your character's Weapon form?:
She will be a bladed tonfa. It is similar to a sword, but you hold it like you would a tonfa basically. However, she will only be one, not two. The blade isn’t terribly long either. Perhaps about the length of (http://www.advancedanime.com/pictures/normal_talim_2.jpg) this or a bit shorter.
She will only have two weapon abilities:
Freezing Darts: Basically this ability is simple enough. Energy gathers into the blade and once swung, a “needle” is sent through. While it flies, it becomes ice and becomes sharp enough to pierce the enemy. The attack isn’t terribly strong but it is at least fast and you can shoot them often enough. However, they won’t be more than half a foot long at best. Enough to pierce, but not enough to kill with just one.
Freezing...magic lol: Okay, lack of name aside, basically if the blade comes into contact, the area that cuts will freeze up. With weak resonance, the ice will barely spread an inch past the cut. It will also melt faster. However, the stronger the resonance, the more solid and widespread the ice will be for each contact. There has to be a cut made for it to work properly however (although a shallow cut is fine).
I don’t know if these are too limiting or not limiting enough. :|a I guess that is up to you guys!

Mairu happened to be putting away the dishes while the thought popped into her mind. A grin slowly crept across her face. It was just like him to ignore his own sisters even though they arrived in Death City. There was no way that he didn’t know about their arrival. Mairu very well knew the type of person he was. Orihara Izaya NOT knowing about something like that? Impossible. More than likely, he knew just where they were right from the moment she and Kururi picked out an apartment. Mairu glanced at the knife in her hand, debating on something for a moment. After a while, she placed it away properly into the kitchen drawer.
“Not yet, not yet! We’ll play with Iza-nii later!” Twirling around, she hopped over to the couch and jumped over it, flopping all across the piece of furniture. She waved to Kururi who was sitting across the room. After that, Mairu pulled out a manga that she had left in between the seat cushions. Oh, but she needed her snack!
Mairu once again flipped over the couch and landed like a ninja. She twirled right back into the kitchen to grab a slice of cake that was left over. Ah, but to cut that cake, she need a knife. And that knife was in that drawer...
Her motions were a bit slow. Mairu pulled the drawer open once more and stared at the knives in front of her. She picked up the one that she had caressed earlier and lifted it up. The glint of light that reflected against the kitchen light made her smile a bit. She could see her reflection in the knife. Suddenly, she slammed the drawer and turned 180 to face her sister, waving the knife in the air.
“Come on, Kururi! I think Iza-nii misses us. We need to say hello like we normally do!” No matter how divided they were, their faces were still the same. Mairu could still see the expressions quite clearly. “After all, we’re still family!”

Mairu happened to be putting away the dishes while the thought popped into her mind. A grin slowly crept across her face. It was just like him to ignore his own sisters even though they arrived in Death City. There was no way that he didn’t know about their arrival. Mairu very well knew the type of person he was. Orihara Izaya NOT knowing about something like that? Impossible. More than likely, he knew just where they were right from the moment she and Kururi picked out an apartment. Mairu glanced at the knife in her hand, debating on something for a moment. After a while, she placed it away properly into the kitchen drawer.
“Not yet, not yet! We’ll play with Iza-nii later!” Twirling around, she hopped over to the couch and jumped over it, flopping all across the piece of furniture. She waved to Kururi who was sitting across the room. After that, Mairu pulled out a manga that she had left in between the seat cushions. Oh, but she needed her snack!
Mairu once again flipped over the couch and landed like a ninja. She twirled right back into the kitchen to grab a slice of cake that was left over. Ah, but to cut that cake, she need a knife. And that knife was in that drawer...
Her motions were a bit slow. Mairu pulled the drawer open once more and stared at the knives in front of her. She picked up the one that she had caressed earlier and lifted it up. The glint of light that reflected against the kitchen light made her smile a bit. She could see her reflection in the knife. Suddenly, she slammed the drawer and turned 180 to face her sister, waving the knife in the air.
“Come on, Kururi! I think Iza-nii misses us. We need to say hello like we normally do!” No matter how divided they were, their faces were still the same. Mairu could still see the expressions quite clearly. “After all, we’re still family!”
