really, really, really bad news

I received a call while at work today from my doctor. Not sure if its been known but as of lately, I'd had a bout with pleurisy or an inflammation of the pleural lining of the lungs. Not feeling as though I had made a full recovery, my Dr. ordered a few tests. So about a month ago, I had a breathing test done, and a chest cat-scan where they inject radioactive dye into your veins. Which was really weird. So today I got the call and I have been informed that I am in the early stages of C.O.P.D-Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

I am currently only 28 years of age. This happens to people who are older than me, yet my grandfather died of emphysema- not all smokers get it, you really are suseptable if you smoke yet I guess its more about your gene pool.

What is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease?
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a group of long-term (chronic) lung diseases that makes it hard to breathe. In COPD, airflow through the airways leading to and within the lungs (bronchial tubes) is partially blocked, resulting in difficulty breathing. As the disease gets worse, breathing becomes more difficult, and it may become hard to carry out everyday activities. Although COPD can be managed, it cannot be cured at this time.

Its the #4 killer of u.s. citizens and worldwide. Death usually comes in the form of a very prolonged suffocation.

So, if you see me somewhere with an oxygen tank, thats why.

If I can't be around you because you smoke tobacco or pot or are burning incense or non-soy candles, thats why.

Its pretty scary. All I want to do right now is get high- but obviously, I can't.

So if you are a smoker out there, I think you should quit soon.
