Urban Decay Book of Shadows

I suppose it helps if I actually update this once in a while!

I've seen this gorgeous, gorgeous item mentioned all over the internet. My initial thought was that it'd never turn up in the UK, and if it did then it would cost far too much. Imagine my suprise then, when I went to Lincoln recently it was sat happily on the Urban Decay counter at House of Fraser. I fell in love pretty much instantly. However, the Urban Decay person was not in that day and no one had the keys! There weren't any boxed ones out on the counter. Anyway, why wouldn't you have someone on a counter on a saturday?

There is another Urban Decay in Lincoln, across the city centre in Debenhams. That counter didn't have anyone working there either (come on UD, many brands have appeared and not put anyone on the counter. Those brands aren't here anymore!) but they had a big stack of boxed palettes. They were only £25!! Not bad, I was expecting over £30.

In the palette (l-r, top to bottom):
-Perversion - nearly matte
-Last Call - shimmer
-Grifter - shimmer with small glitter
-Mayhem (new) - shimmer
-Baked - shimmer
-Smog - shimmer
-Sidecar (new) - shimmer with small glitter
-Gridlock (new) - shimmer
-Shakedown (new) - shimmer
-Roach - shimmer
-Scandal (new) - shimmer
-Midnight Cowboy - shimmer with chunky glitter
-Goddess - nearly matte with blue sparkles
-Shattered - shimmer
-Absinthe (new) - shimmer
-Protest (new) - shimmer

Well, it's an absolute bargain! There are 16 eye shadows, 2 (pointless) brushes and a mini primer potion. We'll ignore the brushes. Of the 16 shadows, 7 are unique to the palette! "Midnight Cowboy" has appeared again, so this is the third one I have in an Urban Decay palette. I had 2 of the other eye shadows in full sized pots, and one in another palette, so I technically have 12 new colours.

For me, the standout shade is "Absinthe". It's a lovely green with golden shimmer. All the shades are really pigmented, but the usual glittery mess ensues with "Midnight Cowboy" and to a lesser extent with "Grifter" and "Sidecar". All the eye shadows are up to Urban Decay's usual standard. And the primer potion mini is just fab for putting in your bag for going away. At least in theory, unless your Mum steals it for herself.

The packaging seems a little excessive, even if it is beautiful. It's completely impractical as it just doesn't stay open on its own. After oohing and aahing when I first got it, I haven't even bothered opening the top part when I use the palette. Really great mirror though, nice and big so you could use this palette for travel.

Still, someone will be thrilled if you got them this as a christmas present. Or get it for yourself.
