Or maybe not. But I went in this morning for the audiogram, and you have to answer these questions before they do it and it turns out that if you have symptoms of Meniere's, they don't do the hearing test without clearance from your doctor. So I wasn't able to have the test, and the earliest the doctor could reschedule me for was Tuesday, the 4th

I work in an Audiology office, and I handle the majority of the hearing aids that go in and out of our office. I'm no Au.D. but I do know a LOT about the aids themselves, the industry, and the insane number of manufacturers out there.
I would be HAPPY to talk to you about anything you're concerned about. If I don't know the answer, I can get it. And I might be able to point you to some interesting things that you hadn't thought about before (like color coordinating hearing aids to match your outfits! They are out there....)
Please, do not hesitate to get in touch, toss me an email, chiaroscurocat at gmail dot com, and I'll even be happy to give you my cell number if you want to chat that way.
Hearing aids shouldn't be trauma. It is the goal of our practice to ensure that the patient walks out of our office with all the tools (the hearing aids are just the first part) to be able to better and more easily communicate in their life. There are also some credit places out there that are designed for helping out with the expense of hearing aid costs, and offer 12 month no interest type plans to help you spread out the cost.
Please do get in touch. I hope that I can help aleviate some of your concerns as an insider that deals with people with hearing loss, and hearing aids, daily.
*HUGS* Glad you're seeking help despite your concerns, so many people don't and they and those around them continually suffer.

I don't really think I'm ready to have big conversations right now ... I've finally agreed to all this and I'm enjoying everyone being off my back about it for a while.
The only hearing aid I feel really truly okay with is the open-canal BTE style ... I don't want to color coordinate, I don't want to draw attention to them if I can help it.
I'll keep this in mind though, thank you so much. *hugs*

There are two new hearing aids on the market which I think are pretty cool that fit down inside the middle of your ear and are very discrete. I can give you info about those if you are ever interested.
And in the regular open fit style, there are a TON of options, almost all the manufacturers have a type of hearing aid like that.
I'll try to keep checking in for updates once in a while to see how you're doing. I miss keeping up with everyone anyway.
