"And I believe that God does have a purpose and a plan.
His purpose and plan often look a lot like genetics, happenstance, human error, and human competence. Praising God for success diminishes the training and dedication of the doctors involved. Praising God for success is a slap in the face to devout people the world over in less developed countries who suffer beyond anything us God-beloved American white folk can appreciate. I don't know about you, but that seems like a pretty callous sentiment to me."

well said Adam. if there is a purpose to any God, it may be to encourage all of us to use the experience of pain and suffering to exercise more loving and caring to one another worldwide - God's will is not to let bad things happen but to allow a physical world to be in motion - with all the consequences related to that world in motion intact. i have come to the conclusion that bad things happen to individuals not to show us the omnipotence of God's wisdom and plan - they simply happen because of this autonomous world we prize so highly.

i pray for strength for all involved in this difficult time, and courage too - i think God does not plan or purpose heartbreak - God weeps with us...
