Tokyo Airport

I write this while sitting in the global lounge of NWA in Tokyo. It's nice. Not great, but nice - or so says my new friend Greg Oas, president and owner of Source One Enterprises. He's an older man who started a company 18 years ago manufacturing things in China and handling exports for other companies. He's now looking to move to Vietnam or Brazil as China becomes too expensive in his words. After a hot chick for a 12 hour flight, I would say the self made entreprenuer is the best single serving friend to have on a flight.

Though this makes me realize - I should have brought way more business cards. I'm down to 1 left already. The tokyo airport is green and light and azn looking, but nothing special yet. The lounge is very nice with food and newspapers and booze or whatever else you like - i can see the appeal. this is not a bad life.

between talking to Greg and reading Atlas Shrugged, I'm realizing more and more that I want the life of the self made man. Many of my views, predilections, and tastes fit with that role, but I have yet to earn them. The book spurs me to remember my ambitions and try to equal characters that echo so many of my needs and feelings. Greg challenges me, just through his example, to try for larger things. it really is just to try...the opportunity is not what is important - its the effort.

i'm looking forward to seeing andy in a few hours, my best friend and a constant source of challenge and ambition - though we fortunately put aside direct competition long ago. but that just reminds me even more of what we said long ago. i will put it in cant due to somewhat unknown readership, but we'll see if he remembers.

andy in highschool there was one 'that guy' to us and we slated him as smart but never going to go above middle management and rightly so. at the beginning of a career arch, the life middle manager and the aspiring president/owner may look the same. but i hope to remove any uncertainty of the difference between us soon. Greg and Ann Rynd challenge me too.

So those are my thoughts in the world lounge of Northwest Airlines in the Tokyo Airport.

just enough time left to grab some sushi and find my flight!

ummm *says goodbye in japanese*
