So, I just realized I have a favorite illustrator. Second to Lauren, of course. But yeah, I had noticed quite a while ago that two of my books have similar illustration on the front cover, and hadn't gotten around to pulling them out together and seeing who they were by. For Christmas I got a third book that reminded me of the others, so I pulled the other two out and they're all by Thomas Canty. Now, I really am a fan of his artwork, but I think what does it most for me is that he's illustrated books by both of my top two favorite fantasy authors! I guess he's a very prolific illustrator, but I think its a great coincidence that he's done work for two of my favorite authors.
Those authors being Fritz Leiber and Ellen Kushner.
And wait, the books I'm looking at are Leiber's The Knight and the Knave of Swords, and Kushner's Swordspoint. I'm sure he did The Fall of the Kings and Thomas the Rhymer as well, which are hiding in my bookshelf somewhere. I can't think of anything else he did for Leiber off hand.
