Issues

I've had a most distressing last 24 hours.

1. My vehicle went to the shop yesterday and 452 dollars and a day later, is running again.

2. It's v. cold here. Snow and everything. Okay, to be fair, most of the snow has melted by now, but it's still very cold.

3. My roommate and I decided to build a fire in the fireplace to celebrate the first snow of the year. Now, this one needs a bit more explanation to understand why it's on the bad list. See, this is the first time either of us has built a fire in this particular fireplace. So, we start the fire and notice that all of the smoke is coming into the room. I get the flashlight and look up inside the chimney and see the the flue is still closed. Stupid us! So I open it. Smoke is going up the chimney; problem solved. We turn off the lights and watch a couple episodes of Firefly. An hour and a half later, we turn on the lights and realize, much to our surprise, that we can barely see across the room into the kitchen through all the smoke in the living room. We opened all the windows and doors and turned on all the fans in the apartment to try to air it out all night long. This was last night and our apartment still smells like a barbeque without the meat this evening.

4. I ALMOST KILLED MY FISH LAST NIGHT!!! This is by far the most traumatic thing that's happened in the last day. Remember how I said it was cold outside? And how we had to open all the doors and windows in the apartment? Yeah, fish are cold blooded ... I woke up this morning and went to feed Mr. O'Fishy (don't ask about the name) only to find him completely gray (he's normally vibrant red) and curled in on himself at the bottom of his bowl/vase thingie. I, being me, panicked majorly as he wasn't moving at all and I thought he was dead. Luckly, he kinda jerked, so I knew he wasn't dead yet. I knew I couldn't just pour him into warmer water 'cause then he would go into shock and that might kill him. So I ended up filling the kitchen sink up with warmish water and submerging his bowl into it so that it was slowly warming up the water he was in. It worked and I'm happy to report that Mr. O was swimming happily this evening when I fed him. But, MAJOR TRAUMA!!

*sigh* But everything is slowly coming around, I think. The fish is alive, the odor is slowly dissapating from our apartment, the vehicle is at least running, and although I don't really have control over the weather, we do have working heat and blankets. Things could be worse.
