Plot Bunny Adoption Centre

Apr 19, 2008 14:05

Sometimes a writer or reader will get bitten by an idea for a story that - for whatever reason - they don’t believe they will be able to write. This is your chance to take those plot bunnies and put them up for adoption so that other writers can have a go at them.

Putting a Plot Bunny up for Adoption

If you have a plot that you would like to see taken up, then please comment to this post - but only after reading the points below. I’ve tried not to be too restrictive where rules are concerned but there is considerable potential for chaos with this so I thought a few guidelines might be useful.

  • All bunnies should be compliant with the community rules.
  • Go into as much detail as you want when putting up a bunny - but keep in mind that super-specific bunnies that outline every detail of the story may have a harder time getting adopted. Leave some room for authors to develop the idea and be creative.
  • Try to be a little more specific than ‘I would like to see a time travel story’ or ‘I would like to see a story set at The Burrow’. Try to include some of the following: plot elements; items you would like to see; the mood/tone of the story; or a snippet of dialogue for inspiration. A maximum or minimum rating might be useful as well.
  • Please do not use obscene language or abbreviations when leaving a suggestion.

I will be setting up a masterlist of ideas at a later date, but for the time being I’m just going to leave them as comments. It all depends on how popular the idea proves to be.

Adopting a Plot Bunny

  • All ideas are listed in the comments to this post. I’ll probably create a masterlist at a later date but for the time being you can find them below.
  • There is no limit on how many people can pick up a single plot bunny.
  • You should post your stories to the community. Fake cuts to personal journals are fine but please do not link to locked posts.
  • Let the person who put the original idea up for adoption know that you’ve had a go at it. One method of doing this might be to reply to the original comment with a link to the story. When doing so, include the following information: title, rating, any warnings, and a link to the story. Put ‘plot bunny adopted’ in the subject line of your reply.
  • You are not forced to use all the elements that the person putting the bunny up for adoption has suggested. Feel free to use them as a starting point for inspiration.
  • Please remember the community rules.

If anyone has any ideas for additional points that they feel should be included in this post them feel free to comment with them.

Remember that it is possible to suggest ideas for the monthly prompts by commenting to this post.

Finally, all comments to this post will be screened. This is so I can make sure that plots that are being put up for adoption conform to the community rules and the guidelines above. I will delete any comments that fail to do so.
