Intro - 01

Dec 20, 2010 07:38

Sirius remembered, quite well, falling through that veil. The stunner his cousin sent him was annoying, but even more annoying than that was, you know, the death which followed it, after falling through that tacky piece of tapestry. The memories that followed were a bit less... clear. There were a few fuzzy images of James and Lily, and for some ( Read more... )

[Noticing the man, Castiel became aware of why it had been that several people had known almost instantly that he was a new arrival to Mayfield -- that was, of course, assuming he'd worn a similar expression when he'd embarked on his excursion of the town.

Cocking his head to one side, he regards him for a moment.]

You're new.

[He jumped a little, and whirled around, trying not to look startled in his white and blue pinstriped pajamas.]

New? Is this some sort of post-mortem gated community in Hell? Because if that's the case... I suppose so, and I owe Remus six galleons.

[Castiel simply looks at him for a moment, expression shifting slightly at the reaction -- Dean had often reacted similarly when Castiel had visited unannounced, but he hadn't imagined his footsteps were that quiet.]

This isn't Hell. Hell is far more ...unwelcoming.

I dunno, apparently I'm married. That's pretty unwelcome.

[Deflect it with a flat, barking laugh, but without really smiling.]

Limbo, then?

[Castiel frowns, studying Sirius intently for a moment.]

Marriage bears no resemblance to the eternal torture a soul experiences in Hell. [It's clear that he is, in fact, entirely serious.]

I doubt it.

You weren't married to Lily.

Granted, neither was I, but if anyone could damn a soul to eternal torture via hellfire, it was her.

[Entirely not put off by the man's lack of humor. He gets that a lot. Or, he did.]

If not that, then where?

I wasn't married. [A pause.]

Mayfield. I haven't received an adequate explanation for this town's nature, but it's possible it's a pocket dimension.

A pocket dimension? Think I can wrap my head around that, after all, I did fall through a veil.

Don't suppose anyone's found a way back yet? I've got a godson, you see, and he needs me...

I've been told not, but that doesn't mean that one doesn't exist.

I see. Well... thank you, I suppose.

What are we supposed to do? Just... live? Like house pets?

You're welcome. [His comment is entirely without irony; it's clear that conversation isn't something he's particularly skilled at.]

I think we're supposed to act as valued members of the society.

[Yes, he's beginning to notice that the man is a bit odd, but considering where he's from, he's not really bothered. The man was heaven compared to Xenophilius.]

Picked the wrong man for that job, then. Haven't been a valued member of society since I was ten.

Whoever brought us here doesn't seem to consider suitability.

Clearly not, or it'd be Remus rather than me.
