Sirius couldn't sleep...
Sighing, he shifted slightly on his bed, watching Eris as she played with her feet and clapped her hands, wondering if she would ever fall asleep. Suddenly, she turned her attention away from her feet and let her big, bright blue eyes land on him, staring up at him, and she beamed, showing off her gums happily and waving her arms and legs up at him, demanding with cuteness that he pick her up right now. Cheerful little chirps and gurgles were pouring out of her, and he found that he couldn’t resist her.
With a smile and a roll of his eyes, he picked her up and lay back on his bed, placing her on his stomach. She clapped ecstatically, laughing, and Sirius let his eyes dart to each of the other beds, checking to make sure no one was disturbed. He thought he heard someone make a noise, but couldn’t be sure. When no one sat up and threatened him, he looked back up at the happy little girl on his stomach and could help but grin at her. She really was just about the cutest baby he’d ever seen. Which made sense, because she was a Black, and the Blacks are renowned for their good looks. He bounced her lightly on his stomach, much to her delight, but he had to stop when her laughter got a little too loud.
Still smiling happily, Eris started to climb up his stomach stopping at his chest. She placed her hands on his face and started playing with his cheeks. A low chuckle was pulled out of him, and he mirrored the movement, pinching her cheeks gently and moving them. She giggled with glee and threw her arms around his face, hugging him. Carefully adjusting her so that she wasn’t suffocating him, he held her close and rolled over on his side, placing her on the bed in front of him and making sure to keep an arm around her to secure her. To his great surprise, she immediately yawned and snuggled closer, one tiny hand gripping his shirt while her other went to her mouth, just letting it rest there. He smiled warmly at her as her breathing became more steady and even.
Despite the fact that she’d kept him up half the night, she was still the cutest thing ever, he thought as he carefully, gently, stroked her head and her hair. Not really seeing the point of getting to sleep himself at this point. He was content to simply lie there quietly and watch over Eris as she slept, with a soft smile on his face.
