So I called my friend Sarah today around 6, asking if she wanted to go eat dinner with me downstairs in the cafeteria, and she asks, "So what are you doing tonight?" And I replied, "I thought we were watching movies [that we rented]..." She then asks, "Do you want to go see The Killers with me?" And I'm like, "Wait...what?"
"The Killers, do you want to go see them?"
I think I said, "What???" about 6 times before it dawned on me that the Killers were, in fact, playing a show at the Frank Erwin center. I then asked her, "Well, how much do I owe you [for the ticket]?" And she replied, "Nothing. They're free."
Yeah. FREE Killers' tickets. Turns out, her dad had a friend who won the tickets through the radio and they didn't really feel like going, so Sarah's dad asked Sarah's brother if he wanted the tickets, but he couldn't make it, so WE ended up with the tickets. Her mom actually drove up from San Antonio to bring us the tickets. How awesome is that???
So, I have to admit, though. I wasn't all that impressed with The Killers' sophomore album. "When You Were Young," "Bones," and "Read My Mind" are all very catchy and somewhat similar to their debut material, but I felt that Flowers (lead singer) had become too full of himself and decided to make the great American album kind of thing. Well....I can't deny the fact that The Killers put on a pretty damn good show. I'd seen the Killers back in 2003 (?) with my sister, except that time, their show was at Stubb's, the local Austin venue in the back of a BBQ place, standing room only, outdoors place. This time around, the show was in a stadium. That wasn't sold out. And with actual seating (a plus, for once!).
But I enjoyed myself. And I think their sophomore stuff will grow on me with more time. AND THE TICKETS WERE FREE!!!!!!
Haha, will try to post pictures later (heck yes I took my camera!).
Speaking of, story to tell: The first time I saw the Killers, it was the first time I ever went to Stubb's. Had no idea it was standing room only and that the venue was outdoors. This was August 19th. TEXAS heat, during the hottest time of the year. Thank God I wore shorts, my poor sister was in jeans. Lots of people around me, no where to move, body heat, no water. I almost fainted from dehydration. BUT, my sister and I were RIGHT UP FRONT. In front of the grail (like during the Snow Patrol show!). Two feet away, close enough to see Brandon Flowers' manicure (yeah, he's uber-metrosexual). But prior to getting in to the show, we overheard a security guy telling the girl in front of us cameras weren't allowed. So being the respectful, rule-abiding people that we are, my sister ran to the car to put the cameras away. Pfft. The people around us all had cameras. And I would have had badass photos. Ah well. You live and learn.
