Films I've watched this week:
Das Kabinett des Dr. Caligari (1920):
I absolutely LOVE German Expressionistic films *drools* And this is by far, the best. LOVED IT!
All That Heaven Allows (1955):
Required screening for my RTF 317 class, however, I really enjoyed it. Two words: Rock Hudson. Haha I love Rock Hudson, he was so dreamy (and yes I know of his personal life and how he died). The story was really good and of course, Douglas Sirk doesn't disappoint in his style of melodrama with mise-en-scene. COLORS!
Re-Animator (1985):
AHAHAHAHAHA! I loved this movie. It's so cheesy and typical of 80s horror, but it was GENIUS!
Half-Nelson (2006):
Ryan Gosling is an amazing actor, he never fails to bring life to a film. Touching story, very cool.
Jeux d'Enfants [Love Me If You Dare] (2003):
Along the lines of Amelie in a sense, same style of mise-en-scene and editing. Cute story. Tragic, but funny. Another French film to add to my favourites list.
Watched again (my roommate hadn't seen these films)
Russkiy kovcheg [Russian Ark] (2002):
How the hell they pulled off a 90-minute continuous take is beyond me. Production must have been a bitch to prepare for, but this film is AMAZING. Seriously. ONE SINGLE TAKE. For 90 minutes. And the fact that it details Russian history makes it all the more amazing.
Lolita (1962):
Kubrick is a filmgod. Awkward story, but well executed in terms of adapting it to film. I still have to read the book, though. If I ever find time to read :-/
So yeah. That is essentially my life. Watching movies all the time. Haha or reading about the history of cinema or narrative strategies. Throw in some German here and there. And some AIDS biology. Heh.
And now Jen and I have film lists going. Everything we've heard about, wanted to see, or were suggested to see, we have it on a list. It will never end. But that's completely fine with me. :)
