Cody's on Telegraph is closing

Just read the Berkeley Online newsletter article on the subject and I still can't believe Cody's is closing. That makes me really sad. :(

Having been a really sheltered kid, and a very sheltered high school student, I can honestly say that Berkeley (the city and the university) scared the hell out of me as a freshman. Going from a tiny, all-girls Catholic high school to...well...the very different place that was Berkeley was rather traumatizing. I was still terrified by the time graduation ('04) rolled around, but it was a more moderate horror, and I'd grown to like quite a few things about the school and the city. In retrospect, I probably should've been medicated sooner, but that's beside the point (and a completely different story). My point in all this is that, as a neurotic undergrad (I'm still neurotic, but in different ways), Cody's was one of my favorite places (i.e. one of the few places I was really at ease). Granted, I had to make the trek through Telegraph to get there, but once I was there, it was always great. So, this might sound cheesy, but I really do believe Cody's made me a braver person, if just because I had to get over my fear of people / the unfamiliar to get to the store.

I haven't visited the store recently because I moved back to LA after graduation. Although it's highly unlikely that I'll actually do so (especially in the LA area), I have yet to find a store that compares with the Cody's on Telegraph. Lots of love for Cody's. It'll be missed.
