It's almost April?! But, why?!?! So many papers due by the end of this semester... >_<
I have some ideas for a couple of them, and one of these days I think I'll actually start doing the research for them. Paper #1 (so-called because it's the first I have to turn in - for my word/image studies class): Heinrich Hoffman (Strewwelpeter), Edward Lear, Edward Gorey. Writer's block? Maybe. But, it could just be that I haven't really given this the attention it deserves (I've been putting it off 'til the last second). Must sit down and write. Side note: Also have to write/draw/produce a mini-comic for my Comics class. Tried working on it this past weekend, but it (the weekend) was dreary and rainy and generally ugly. Ennui much. Ran out of medication on Friday and didn't get some more until Sunday. Couldn't bring myself to do anything. Appropriately enough, I read R.Crumb's "Kafka" on Saturday. It was very interesting and funny in a dreary sort of way. Went to the local bookstore on Sunday afternoon and bought the most recent Believer mag: interestingly, it has an article about Kafka (will read later today). So yes, I can honestly say that the weekend was very Kafka-esque.
A good thing: We discussed Neil Gaiman's "Calliope" in class today (mythology, inspiration, authors/writers, writer's block, ideas, etc).
Haven't seen V for Vendetta yet but will do so eventually.
Before class today, I spoke with someone who saw it and he said that it was pretty good as long as you didn't compare it to the book...
Read recently:
- R.Crumb's Kafka
- Miniature Sulk by Jeffrey Brown
- Etiquette for Evil by Kevin Sampsell (illustrated by Ivan Brunetti and the reason why I bought it)
- 32 Stories (The Complete Optic Nerve mini-comics) by Adrian Tomine
- MOME (Summer 2005) by various authors (it's a comics lit. journal/mag)
- Night Fisher by R. Kikuo Johnson
- Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi (finally read it)
- MAUS by Art Spiegelman (finally read it)
