"Home"
Leona smiled as she leaned back against the cliff she was sitting upon, letting her feet dangle back and forth along the edge. The wind played with her wild brown mane of hair, if possible making it even MORE unruly, but she just laughed. After all, there were far more important things in life than how ones hair looked. It was a rare moment of peace for her, a moment where she could just relax back and be herself. She didn’t have to take on a feline form to fit in, or get out of some kind of trouble. She could just relax here in her human form, and take in the sights of a world so much bigger than anyone but her knew. It was a quiet time indeed… well it was. “Leona!” exclaimed a familiar voice behind the girl. Blinking with surprise Leona turned around to find the newest companion in her travels: Flitch.
Now Flitch was a small one compared to most of his kind, standing at only about five feet high on the average. But he made all for it because it was five feet of all fire, all spirit! Literally he was all fire and spirit anyways, being a fire demon. But, like Leona, he had long ago pulled away from the dark activities usually associated from his creation. “Yeah Flitch?” Leona asked as she faced him. The demon’s beady black eyes, that seemed like small pieces of coal, seemed almost to lighten a few shades to gray as he spoke.
“Leona… didn’t we all ask you to go home?” he asked, concerned in his voice. It was an odd tine to hear from a pyron, considering most of them tried to sound like a roaring fire and succeeded! “I mean the adventure is over, and you helped save me!” Flitch continued on. “If its about me don’t worry Ill be fine!” Leona smiled slightly, and reaching out an unafraid hand set it on top of his flaming head and ruffled the flames there.
“Don’t worry Flitch, its not about you,” she replied, but Flitch could tell her usually excited tone was a bit more somber than usual.
“Then what?” Flitch asked, both of his immense pillar like ears flattened. “I mean after all you did for me, I just want to see you happy Ash.” Leona blushed a bit, upon hearing the name Ash that Flitch had used once before. She knew in Flitch’s culture it was a great honor, for it meant that your spirit burned brighter than anyone’s.
“Well you see Flitch… my home really isn’t a place,” she tried to explain, her golden eyes far away.
“Isnt a place? What do you mean What is it then?” Flitch asked, tilting his head to the side allowing one of his ears to flip over. Leona laughed warmly.
“Yu ask almost as many questions as I do Flitch! But I’ll tell ya anyways because I love ya!” She gave him a wink, before nodding to herself. Flitch could tell she usually didn’t speak about whatever she was going to say, and it somehow seemed she was full of sadness and yet… happiness too? The poor pyron was more confused than ever! “It’s a person,” she finally said, raising even MORE questions!
“He must be one heck of a person then! But… where is he?” the little demon asked.
“Well you see Flitch, thats the thing! I have to find him. You see, lomg ago I was cursed. Every few centuries Im separated from him, and were randomly thrown across worlds…”
“That’s awful!” Flitch gasped, horrified.
“But… its all right because we both hold in our hearts the knowledge Ill find him again. He cant cross worlds like I can, but we’re both patient. We know that it’ll be worth the wait! So I don’t worry at all, and though it sometimes gets lonely I know one day, Ill finally find him again…” As she spoke, her gaze had drifted towards the skies. In this world the skies always seemed to shine a blazing red, reminding her of the pyrons themselves. Eventually her gaze ended up turning back towards Flitch, and she nearly fell off the cliff at shock in what she saw!
From the little fireball at her side, steam was coming out! It was pouring out of the pyron’s eyes, like a spa of some sort. “Flitch? Flitch whats wrong?!?” Leona asked, her golden gaze brimming with concern.
“Its just that… Im so sorry Leona! That’s terrible!” the pyron exclaimed, setting its paws around her in a hug. Leona’s eyes widened with surprise, before she set her arms around the pyron as well with a smile.
“Thanks Flitch…” she said, smiling towards him. The pyron nodded, standing back up to his full height.
“No problem! Now… what are you waiting for hmmm? Youd better find him again soon so you can be happy again Leona! Don’t make me go into Angry Little Fire Demon Mode!” Leona giggled, and winked.
“Youre right! Bye Flitch- Ill never forget you!” She exclaimed, and with a wave she jumped over the cliff. Flitch gasped and looked down to find that she had somehow landed on the ground far below safely, and was now running away.
“Good luck!” he called, waving back and watching until she was just a speck on the horizon. He hadn’t a doubt on his mind that shed find happiness soon!
