He was fooling himself. Remus knew this was the truth, but was powerless to do anything about it.
Over the years the illusion that was his ‘normal’ life grew from one lie to many.
He was just another student at Hogwarts.
He was a real wizard.
He had the grades to get a good job when he left school.
Sirius loved him back.
He wished it was true, but his heart knew the truth.
Sirius didn’t see him when they were together.
It wasn’t him he was touching.
“James!” Sirius cried out when he came.
The illusion was shattered again.
