Migraines have been robbing my attention for the past few weeks in conjunction with increased pressure to finish this site at work. I want to return to the tuesday tai chi class and didn't want to miss it when I did. My behavior when not in pain oscillates between focusing heavily on this system and then trying to relax brain.
Since my last physical was around 1991 I've been wanting to get one for the past few years and couldn't afford it. Wednesday morning I went and am now
An electrocardiogram indicated my heart's function is normal. Urine analysis showed no abnormalities. Nothing out of the ordinary during the visit. The blood tests would be performed later; today I received the results.
My total cholesterol is 224 mg/dL and low density lipids (LDL) is 147 mg/dL. This is very bad. Very low density lipids are 23 mg/dL, which isn't great. But high density lipids are 54 mg/dL, which I think is good, and triglycerides are 113 mg/dL. Because of this high cholesterol level, I am going to drastically limit or eliminate the last of the animal products in my diet. And this aggravates my desire to not be a cigarette smoker. I need help which I think can only come from within.
The other blood tests revealed normal complete blood cell count, kidney function, glucose, and thyroid function. "One level very mildly elevated" for liver functionality.
Outputs provided by the doctor included a prescription for Zomig plus samples allow me to try another migraine medication. Another for antibiotics to attempt help with folliculitis.
But I'm wary of using pharmaceuticals, have been for my adult life. Lifestyle - especially exercise, diet, and tobacco cessation - seem more likely to end migraines without ill side effects. And I don't know whether diet and exercise will help with folliculitis, but I'm thinking about going to an allergist for ideas.
In summary, I'm seriously considering becoming vegan; I WILL end my tobacco use; and once I buy better clothing I will ride my bicycle 30 miles daily (to work and back).
The sense has been periodically active over the past year, the one that suggests that I must battle inertia. People seem more likely to put on and keep weight as they age and have more difficulty returning to optimal health.
On the plus side, the doctor told me that I could wait two years for another physical. I hope I can afford one then, or live somewhere that doesn't install hoops to preventative health care for the poor.
As I've been really busy with work and not mentally capable of responding to communication, all of you have been neglected. This will be redressed glacially over the next 3-6 weeks while I'm too busy.
