Well. Yesterday my ipod gave up the ghost...shifted off this mortal coil....expired.....went to meet it's maker....popped it's clogs...basically it broke. It's completely knackered. Now it's been around about 13 months since mky parents bought it, so I went into Currys whose ipod specialist type told me:
"It's knackered."
Me:"...Well...yeah I could have told you as much myself. What do we DO about it?"
Him:"....well your 12 month guarantee has expired, I suggest you upgrade"
Me:"meaning?"
Him:"buy a new one"
Me:"After a year? Just because I got the dud ipod in a thousand?"
Him:*shrugs and looks bored*
I later phoned Apple, who told me that "out of waranty" repair would cost me £160...more than the ipod itself cost! I reminded the bloke on the phone that I had spent ALOT of money on this ipod....on Itunes etc. He gave the phone version of above mentioned bored shrug.
SO! There was no way in hell I was going to stand for this, did some research and found an article in the Guardian written by a barrister.....and I paraphrase:
"High end electronic goods such as Ipods etc, are expected to function for several years, if a malfunction does occur in this time, the consumer is within his/her rights to demand compensation. The expiration of a 12 month guarantee does not change this and the retailer still has an obligation to rectify the problem.
HA. In your face Currys.
On monday am going into Trading Standards to find out more. Am guessing that if I whinge and complain and bitch enough, Currys/Apple will just repair or replace my ipod.
