Drama Spazzing Time

Aug 12, 2010 01:19

It's almost one in the morning and even though I'm clearly in need of some shut-eye, I just can't.

I totally killed my promise to myself when I saw that a subbed episode 17 was added to the queue and I ended up watching episode 16. First off, King of Baking: Kim Tak Gu IS THE BOMB. I was actually introduced to it due to this post on how Kyuhyun sings one of the songs to the drama in this particular scene, which amused me. So I looked it up and got this for a synopsis:

Kim Tak Goo is the eldest son of Goo In Jong, the president of Samhwa Enterprise, a legend in the baking industry. Although he is an extremely talented baker and seemed destined to succeed his father as president, Goo In Jong's family plotted to rob him of his inheritance because he was born to In Jong's mistress. Tak Goo's determination to become number one in the baking industry drives him to rebuild his career from scratch despite the many trials he faces.

So it's not the greatest of synopsis, but it gives you just enough. Anyway, just because the synopsis reeks could have been better, I decided to try it out anyway. This was where I broke another rule of mine that I made for my own well-being: do not start a drama that has not completed yet. Lo and behold, King of Baking is still airing. In fact, episode 20 (out of 36, according to wiki) will be airing today. Yes, that means I haven't finished it yet and it's still far from being finished; I have no idea why I'm writing something about it now, but here I am.

No, that's not right. I'm here because while watching episode 16, I was going nuts. SO CUTE. You'll know why when you watch it.

I'll spoil it for you anyway...

So the drama starts before the main characters are even born (when they grow up, they're oh so very cute as well ^^ - that's not the point). It literally takes up several episodes until you get to "present time" when the two main male leads are in their early 20s. The first few episodes were so melodramatic I wasn't even sure if I should continue. I sucked it up, though. Then they came; the guy who plays the main guy (Tak-gu) actually reminds me of a mix between Lee Junki and Jiro Wang (from Taiwanese boyband, Fahrenheit). Anyway, he's the illegitimate son between the young maid and the boss to this big bread company, Geo Seong, who is unable to father a son to continue the business. You know, the whole males-are-the-only-ones-capable-over-taking-over spiel. Anyway, the wife isn't very happy so she gets it on with who is essentially the "vice president" of a sort; he's always there. Anyway, they have a son (Ma-jun) as well. So it's basically a power struggle between the mother (and the secretary-VP dude) and the President; except the President's pretty innocent. The two boys never really get along and Ma-jun has this whole superiority complex due to this station. Many bad things happen to Tak-gu and his mother are run away from the home and eventually make their own lives except they get tangled with The Family once more. Anyway, the point is that they always end up together, no matter what Secretary-VP and Wife come up with and you see Tak-gu and Ma-jun together working in the same bakery (what a surprise, eh?).

Well, they never get along but in EPISODE 16, there are so many cute, brotherly moments!!! Secrets get told, tears are spilled, I wave my hands crazyily about... it's absolutely beautiful.

So yes, that's all I wanted to get out of my system. ^^ I would have made the spoilers more detailed and elaborate, but I want to re-watch my favorite scenes of the episode before I head off to bed, haha. :)
