Today is day number two of a five-day weekend. It was originally going to be a six-day weekend because I worked an extra day a couple weeks ago for this training in San Francisco. Unfortunately, there's an important meeting on Wednesday that I have to help prepare for on Tuesday. This is the breakdown of why I have so many days off:
Thursday - Lincoln's Birthday (State Holiday)
Friday - RDO (I have a 9/80 schedule which allows me every Friday as a Regular Day Off)
Saturday - Weekend
Sunday - Weekend
Monday - Presidents Day (State Holiday)
Tuesday - Was going to take off to make up for an RDO that I used for training.
It's nice being employed by the state for certain reasons like holidays and benefits. Unfortunately, the pay is very low for my profession. I'm making nearly half of what I could be making in equivalent jobs. I've also been slapped in the face with furloughs, resulting in a 10% pay cut. Now I have EVERY Friday off, but with less pay.
I like my job right now. I work mostly with biologists and some planners. Everyone is environmentally conscious at work, which is great. The aisle next to me is filled with noise-making stuffed animals. Every once in a while, we set them all off and it sounds like we're out in the wild.
Last weekend, I went to the Chinese New Year Parade. It's supposed to be the largest Asian parade outside of Asia. There were so many people. The parade lasted for hours, I didn't even stay for the whole thing. The dragon was definitely a highlight for me, until it almost knocked my camera out of my hands. It was worth it.
Golden Gate Bakery is a very popular Chinese bakery in Chinatown. They're known for their Egg Custard Tarts. They are so good!
