True Colors

Watch and wait
While I segregate these colors
Reps of the brown and blue
Red, green, and yellow too
Black and white still the same
Cerulean smoothly floods the scene
Between Dandelion and Mac and Cheese

Crayons so full of color
Flattened wax portrays magic
And pastels are instant classics
On this once blank sheet

They do not squabble
Nor do they wage war
Genocide is replaced by Sepia
The only shield can be peeled away
Gently by an inside-the-lines-child
Colors have no pride or agitations
Only images brought by imagination
Politics and presidents are myths
Only Fuchsia and Denim with
Sunsets and jeans
And Robin's Egg Blue
Flowing with an easy breeze
Through all the Forest Green trees

Now these, all the crayons strewn
Across the acrylic kitchen floor
Watching a little brother
Try his best to construe the world
Through his own true colors
