OOC; the EMP, suggestions, etc.
With this post the EMP event has officially started. As noted in the newsfeed this morning, the pulse itself occurs at 6.35pm and will cross the entire city within two seconds. A number of things will happen simultaneously and instantly:
- All lights in the city will turn off.
- The sirens will NOT sound at all.
- Car and burglar alarms, motion sensitive systems, will be instantly triggered.
- All NVs (and telephones) will cease functioning. Even if they are shielded from EMPs, the networks running them will be temporary down for 10 minutes.
- Clocks and watches, unless run on clockwork rather than batteries, will also stop running, meaning that it's impossible to tell if the ten minutes of creeping Darkness is up.
- The train system will stall, and remain in emergency stop mode till power resumes.
Ten seconds after the EMP, emergency power will be returned to places like the hospital. The HoA will also be exempt as noted before. All other consequences of the EMP will persist for TEN MINUTES at which point power will be normally resumed and anything in use before will automatically switch back on. NVs return to normal function, trains continue etc. The EMP is probably most harmlful to people with pacemakers or alternatively cyborgs. I'm looking at you Godot.
Suggestions for interactions! A suggestion post will go right below this one for people who have ideas for how to use the EMP but are playing out some other aspect of it, or people who have an idea but who are looking for someone else to join in. Here's a few to get you started!
- Stuck in a train carriage during emergency stop mode
- Fighting off the monsters that have slipped through your bedroom window
- Hiding out with a total stranger in one of the City's bunkers
- Emergency! Help get some poor sap to hospital after his pacemaker gives out/he's attacked by a darkness monster
- Trapped in a lift!
- Helping someone who's frightened of the dark after the power goes out
