Roxas hadn't known what to expect from this encounter. He'd turned his back on the Organization once, only to turn right back around and charged back to the castle--but not to rejoin the group. Except he'd never gotten close enough to see any of them, and after getting pulled here and accepting he was trapped, he hadn't been sure he ever would again, only to find out that the members with him in Siren's Port were ones he hadn't thought he ever could see again.

That and the fact that he was pretty sure Riku and Joe wouldn't like the idea of him going to see Zexion and Lexaeus had bugged him all day. He'd left the apartment hours early because of it, not that anyone had cared; he often left to go out on his own, anyway. It felt too crowded sometimes, even though there was plenty of space to move.

When Zexion had stepped into view, Roxas had gaped a little. He'd accepted that his former comrade was alive and here, somehow. But he hadn't really believed it. He was pretty sure that even if he'd had a heart, he wouldn't know what to feel ( ... )

The fresh, vibrant, top-notch-as-usual food looked terribly out of place in the dingy second-hand room with its chipping walls and scrap wooden furniture, but it was safe, in more ways than one, and that was about all that mattered ( ... )

"Shall we?" Zexion could forgo immediate confrontation in lieu of beginning with the soup, which was still steaming hot. A shame to waste that, after all; he'd worked over it enough and he always disliked wasting effort. "We can discuss as we dine, or wait until afterward. Please give us your preference, Roxas."

It was simple enough to cater to the younger Nobody for the moment, in the interest of maintaining smooth relations. No one liked a fidgity youngster at the dinner table, after all. Lexaeus' bulk was familiar, a constant, he hardly had to look at it as he went to seat himself; three chairs clumped somewhat around the smallish table, he took one of the ends, flicking his gaze towards Lexaeus and then towards the middle chair, watching with satisfaction as his fellows moved to sit as well.

Roxas hesitated for a moment. It wasn't like he thought Zexion and Lexaeus wanted to poison him or anything, but sitting down like this and eating together...even though it wasn't anything they'd done together before, during those few weeks they'd spent as comrades before the group had gone to Castle Oblivion and never come back, just the idea of it seemed too...friendly. Like it was the old days, sitting around after everyone had finished with their missions for the day ( ... )

The glance was hardly necessary, and so Lexaeus didn't go to great pains to catch it - he moved as smoothly and silently as he ever did, taking to that middle seat with the air of a mediator and the expression of a compromiser. Just from Roxas's hesitance, he could tell that skill would be needed; but when the younger Nobody seated himself without further incident, there was the spark of a hope that the general atmosphere could be kept, that the kinks wouldn't be too difficult to work out ( ... )
