[This time, it's not an accident. Chuck felt it like a phantom limb when the Shadow broke through a TV screen and beat Anna half to death. He can feel the presence on the edges of His consciousness, formless and faceless in the shadows.

Chuck just runs, weaving through the city, sometimes tripping or slowing or stopping to think and feel it. It's the most Power he's used in a while, just this piddly extension of a tiny sliver of awareness.

The thing is that all prophets have that angel radar, so it's only natural for him to start in shock when he can feel Balthazar only a few blocks away. Balthazar, the angel who's probably too distracted to notice him, Balthazar the broken-down son who's lost his way.

His heart sinks like a stone. No.

He runs, not knowing why because if the Shadow already has him then there's nothing Chuck can do without blowing the lid off the whole damn thing. So Chuck slips inside an alley only two short blocks off from the angel, closes his eyes, and feels.

It's easy to feel the Shadow, already new-reformed and keeping pace with Chuck across the street, outstripping him easily to catch up with the baby angel. Chuck is near enough now that it's easy for the thing to stay in one piece, especially with how hard Chuck's concentrating on it and how much of His mind is currently bent towards Balthazar. Perversely, by denying and rejecting everything that He anticipates the shadow has to want, Chuck is helping it stay together and find his son.

The thing, enormous and almost (but not quite) entirely unlike Heaven and might, looms hulking and huge over Balthazar, eyes burning black with hate fixed purely on the angel. This is just one more. Another mistake. Another one like the human-angel. Elsewhere, Chuck is seething to himself, quietly hissing that this thing better not, that it has no right, that it can't it's not Him.]
