We're all trapped in a maze of relationships, life goes on with or without you )
Seeing your parents trying to kill each other is a big eye opener. It tells you that nothing is sacred. Sure, you say that, but when you really see something important going down in flames like its nothing, you really understand what that means.
But hey. They're dead, and I'm still alive.
[ She smiles, but it doesn't reach her eyes. ]
How you think that happened?
[ Her eyes narrow. ]
I'll give you a hint: it's not by saying "please stop."
[ The girl removes a pistol from the pile. She plays with it, really, by rolling it across her palms, checking for its ammo, flickering the safety switch on and off, on and off . . . ]
Another lesson from the apocalypse is this: be selfish. Everyone else? They don't matter. Surviving matters. Got people you can trust? Good. Just remember: you are going to make some hard choices. Choices like leaving more people behind, or killing them if they are going to kill your people.
[ A hard expression. ] The people you trust is all that matters.
I will let this entire island burn if that's what it means to make sure they will make it out okay. Especially if I survive. That's a plus too.
In fact, you got to make your survival priority. You can't help your own people if you're dead yourself, now can you?
[ Her yellow eyes widen in a suspicious glare. She looks half-mad, with her filthy face and cracked, dry lips. ] But looking at you - I look at you and I can see the ways which you will drag me down. Drag me down and my people as well.
[ A click of the safety switch turned off. ]
Well, that just won't do.
[ She aims the gun at the screen. A disgusted, furious sneer distorts Zoey's face.
A bang shots out.
Then, static. ]

She doesn't want another talk like they did in the Tower Apartments either. It has to be talked about anyway, but right now? Zoey is just too weak to really handle any brow-beating now.
But she's not going to lie either. She's done lying to people, done lying to herself.
Zoey knows what she's got to do in the next coming months. ]
after what happened, how can it not be?
no I got everything under control.
