After a long procession of oil changes and tire rotations, Kurt had headed straight to the Felton for rehearsal and didn't come home until minutes before the Siren sounded. He was exhausted, but eager to see Blaine; it seemed like they had no time to spend with one another lately. Their nights were usually rather short, since they were always so tired, but Kurt had other plans. He carried with him two coffees--a medium drip and a nonfat mocha, respectively.

He'd expected to see Blaine in the living room or the kitchen area, and frowned when he didn't. "Blaine?" he said loudly, boots thumping on the tile floor as he set the coffees down on the kitchen counter.

Blaine heard Kurt come home but he couldn't really bring himself to call out for him. He figured that Kurt would try the bedroom soon.

He did. Kurt stood in the doorway, still toting his Gucci bag, and frowned. "Blaine?" he said again, taking a few steps forward. "What's wrong? Are you feeling sick again?"

Blaine shifted a bit to look at him. "No. Um, it's one of my friends. Tyrell." He pushed himself up. "He was the person in the paper. The one who recused the journalist." The one who had died after it.

He had mentioned Tyrell before to Kurt, mostly just to say that he was meeting a friend for lunch. "They printed his name today."

Blaine's voice was bland. He looked away, seeming a little dazed.

"Oh, honey." Kurt's heart sank. This was hardly a new occurrence for either of them, not in this place--but that didn't make it any less horrible, any less hard. He set down his bag and moved quickly to Blaine's side, sliding a hand through his boyfriend's hair.

"Shh... Easy, okay?" He leaned down to kiss him on the top of the head. "Do you need anything? I brought you coffee."

Blaine closed his eyes as Kurt touched him and kissed him. "Thank you," he said softly at the mention of coffee. "Lie down, okay?" he requested. Coffee always sounded lovely but right then he wanted to have Kurt with him in bed.

Kurt nodded and reached down to remove his boots before dutifully sliding into bed behind Blaine. He rubbed the other boy's shoulder in soothing circles, and for a moment felt irrationally angry. It wasn't anger toward Blaine or any one person in particular, just--anger at their circumstances, perhaps, as was so often the case.

Blaine wasn't supposed to be like this. He was ebullient, bright-eyed, enthusiastic and sharp. He was optimistic, generous and didn't have a mean bone in his body. This--this sullen, withdrawn boy with dark circles beneath his eyes, constantly grieving...

He sighed. "How long have you been in bed?"

Blaine sighed. "All day," he admitted, unable to bring himself to lie to Kurt. It knew it was pathetic though and it made him feel guilty.

Despite that, Kurt's hands on him were comforting. Blaine shifted and moved to put his arm on Kurt's side.

"Well, that's not productive at all," Kurt scolded gently, and gave Blaine's shoulder a little shake. "Come on, come out into the kitchen at least. I can make you something."

Blaine groaned and shifted closer to Kurt. He wrapped his arm around Kurt, singling that he wanted Kurt to stay in bed with him.

"Blaine," Kurt sighed, but relented. He'd try again in a moment. For now he simply allowed Blaine to hold him, sliding his arm around his boyfriend's upper back to rub at it soothingly.

"Do you want to talk about it?"

"I don't know what to say," he admitted. He felt guilty because words were failing him so much, but he was never really good at talking about his feelings. That was why he loved music.

"Okay," said Kurt, well-equipped to handle this. "Then I'll tell you about my day. Let's see..." He trailed off for a moment to think, gently running his thumb over the sharp angles of Blaine's shoulder blade. "I was swamped at the garage this morning. Everyone and their mother wants maintenance before winter really hits. I wonder if it gets as bad here as it does in Ohio..."

He was stalling, trying to ease Blaine into a more comfortable mood. Like hell was he going to let Blaine avoid the issue forever, though.

Blaine smiled a bit. It was easier to focus on Kurt and his day. He loved to hear him talk about working in a garage because it made him think of home, of Burt's shop and home. "Busy is good though," he points out, smiling in a way that was much more like his old self. "It's the season for shopping after all."

Kurt loved that smile. He traced it with his fingertips and returned it with one of his own. "Speaking of shopping, what would you like for Christmas?"

"Mm, I already have everything I want," Blaine teased a bit. His hand pressed lightly into Kurt, obviously implying that all that he wanted was Kurt. "Though I could probably use some scarfs and hats for winter."
