Delays, delays, delays.
It was the bane of any scientist's existence, to have their precious projects delayed by the moronic incompetence of someone else. In this case, the higher ups at SERO had so much else on their plate, that they almost forgot about the little "intern" program they had set up, at his request of course. After all, how else was he supposed to capture a Quincy while looking innocent?
There was so much riding on this for Szayel. It wasn't so simple as revenge, though that did play a part in it; he hadn't appreciated Ishida using him as a means to get a look into the very inner workings of SEROs human research division. No, his true purpose for orchestrating this elaborate play was purely for his own ends. He wanted Ishida for himself, the interesting little human, turned into his adoring pet, among other things -- it would be nice to have a creature around that wouldn't cry or beg for their life every time he wanted to randomly experiment on something, after all.
It wasn't just his personal comfort he wanted either, but establishing the fact that he was, naturally, the most brilliant creature amongst the living or dead. With Ishida there, it would signal the beginning of the first test phase, of the start of everything. If the CODEC was successful, then the communication relays in his real project would be successful. If the communication relays were successful, then he would be able to break away from the ridiculous stranglehold of these combative companies, and force everyone to recognize his perfection and his superiority.
Szayel leaned back in his seat, a delightfully evil smile playing on his face as he relished in the mental images that thought brought to him. Oh yes, this would be glorious...
...but first he needed Ishida in here.
Szayel righted himself, focusing entirely on the animal he was dissecting at the moment. He could not have any ties to this internship program, no indication what so ever that he had been responsible for it just so Ishida would be placed close to him. This would be his grand test on the stage: convincing the Quincy that he was innocent.
Any moment now he would feel his presence, being led down the hall to his lab... any moment...
