After that, though, it's back to boring things, and she leans back in her chair to smother a yawn behind her hand. Huh. Maybe she should have just gone home early after all. ]

Of course, just attending a single meeting wouldn't necessarily be enough help with that end, but it would be a start. He took a seat near the back of the room, looking over the pamphlet that Ms. Mayer had pointed out and quietly listening to the speakers.
By the time the meeting is called to a close, he's glad he came; suggestions of costumed 'speed dating' (whatever that was supposed to be) aside, it had proved informative enough.

Still, once recognition hits her, she's quick to come over, for all that she's halfway through looping a scarf over and around her neck.
"Mr. Prochainezo--?" She flashes him an uncertain smile, offering her hand. "Ah, I don't know if you remember me, but it's good to meet you in person."

But just as he starts considering that, he realizes that Yako had been heading for him instead of just in his direction. As soon as she starts to address him, he stands.
"Miss Katsuragi," he says, with a small smile that mirror's Yako's own. He shifts his hat to his left hand so that he can shake her offered hand-briefly, but firmly. "I remember you; yes. Thanks for your help before."
He pauses, and then adds, "I hadn't realized you were a part of this committee."

"It didn't really seem important to mention it at the time," she admits, slightly apologetic. Introducing herself as the finance and fundraising head for one of the few Newcomer organizations in the Port felt like too much of a mouthful at the best of times, and she still thinks of herself as a detective and a caseworker first before anything else.
"I'm glad to see you here. I hope you're settling in all right..."

He brightens a little when Yako brings up how he's settling in-settling in was the reason he'd come today, but in that aspect he's at least doing much better than the last time they'd spoken. "I'm getting used to it somehow," he answers. "I did find a place to live after we spoke last, and I landed a job at Spark's-so there's that. It's kinda amazing here, but there's still so much I'm not familiar with."
Firo pauses, lifting his hand to idly scratch behind his ear as he ducks his head. Sheepishly, he adds, "And I don't mean just local things like politics or the Darkness... Everything is just so different from what I've always known."

"Everyone takes time to get used to something this different. Even the people who've been to places like this before have a hard time adjusting." Some never manage to, but that is a thought she keeps to herself. "I think you're doing better than you give yourself credit for."
"Especially since... where did you live, before coming here?" After a brief pause to consider the question, Yako adds, "And when?" You could never be too sure about the secon part, sometimes, and while she has her own guesses about Firo, it's always better not to assume.

He's not convinced that he;s selling himself short on how well (or not) he was adjusting, but at least he hasn't had quite as much to catch up on as some people might. At least he knows what cars are, and movies, and telephones, and trains...
He gives a short laugh at the thought and adds, "I suppose it could be worse, though. I'm only a few decades behind instead of a few centuries." He couldn't imagine what it would be like to come here from something like the middle ages or the 1700s.

"Or you could have come from a place where there isn't a Canada-- or any of the countries we know." She's met a few people like those, and she's always wondered how she would react had the reverse happened to her. If she'd been stuck in a world with nothing remotely resembling the technology she's used to, and where she'd suddenly have to learn magic. She could probably cope with the cooking (she's good at improvising with an understocked kitchen, anyway) but picturing the rest of it makes her internally cringe ( ... )

But from the sound of it, Yako isn't one of those people, and the mention of it piques his curiosity. He glances to the side as one of the other attendees passes him (mentally noting that he shouldn't keep Yako for too long), and then addresses her again, "I guess we are... Where and when did you live before this? Some place with a Canada, I presume?"

"I bet all that traveling comes in handy for getting used to somewhere new like this, even if had been unplanned," he comments with a small smile. But it also makes him wonder: Yako has already been in this city for longer than Firo has, and to have been traveling even before then... "But that's still a long time to have been away from home. Don't you miss Japan?"

"That's a really... positive way of looking at it."
Firo glances at the door again; more people have filtered out by now. "I'm not keeping you, am I?" he asks, making a gesture towards the door.

"I guess we should both get going. It's just about time for sirens..." She starts moving towards the door, but nods at him. "Where are you headed?"
