[Kurt tends to avoid the Tower Apartments on principle, but he is on a mission this afternoon. It had taken a trip home to solidify it, but he really did miss Rachel--and not just her, but Mercedes and Brittany and Tina...even Santana. Being sent to the Port had left him oddly bereft of female friends his own age, and meeting Claire had been an unexpected blessing. He hopes they'll hit it off, and if not? At least he'll do some good for the Newcomer community.

He arrives promptly, toting his Gucci bag and dressed in his best shopping outfit. Claire isn't difficult to find, and he gives her a smile, bouncing on his feet a little as he approaches her.]

Hello there! I hope I'm not late.

Hey. [ Claire smiles back, turning off her NV and placing it back into her bag. In comparison to his outfit and bag, Claire suddenly feels very ... under-dressed. She'd gotten free clothing from a clothing drive, though it definitely wasn't any designer labels; simple jeans, obviously used messenger bag, and a t-shirt. At least she had the boots she'd arrived in; those were her pride and joy, and they gave her an added couple of inches. It felt odd, not being able to feel the temperature like she used to be able to.

She stands, walking a few steps towards him as well. ] No, you're right on time. I like your bag.

Why thank you! [He grips it close, neglecting to mention that it's where he hides his trusty handgun. No need to freak her out.] It's a little beat up, I'm afraid, but it comes in handy.

[He clasps his hands together.] So, shall we begin? We can explore Sector 4 today, and head to the Underground Mall?

Sure, sounds great. [ Claire would benefit from one of those. Especially if Sylar found a way to get out of jail early. Getting attacked by him twice was not a very appealing thought. She didn't want to think what else he would do to her body the second time through her brain; she kind of liked having control of her bodily functions. ] Lead the way.

[And he does, leading her out into the blustery Fall weather. The streets are bustling as usual, and he points things out to her as they walk.]

So once you leave the Tower Apartments you'll be wanting to find a new complex-- I live a few blocks north of here. And trust me, you're going to want to find a new place. The Tower Apartments are abysmal and they always smell like curry for some reason.

[He quickens his pace a little.] There's a coffee shop I really like, right there. Really good frappuccinos.

Trust me, I'm already getting sick of them. [ Quickening her pace to keep up, she briefly wonders if caffeine would have an effect on her. She'd never noticed anything drastic before, but then again she wasn't in the habit of drinking it, either. They tasted good, though. ]

Even better than Starbucks? [ Was there even a Starbucks in the city? ]

Even better than Starbucks. Here, let's get one.

[He leads her into the coffee shop and buys two nonfat frozen coffees. It's a bit cold to be drinking one of these, really, but he figures their brisk pace will warm them up.]

A few of the shops around here are nice, but we'll have to take the subway to get to the mall. Up for a little trip?

[ It's never too cold for good coffee. And speaking of good coffee, Claire would have to remember this place when she had some spare cash. Hell, she'd make sure she saved up for this coffee. And, of course, pay Kurt back. ]

Wow- you're right, this stuff is great. I might have to rethink my stance on drinking coffee every day. [ She takes another sip. ]

Of course; it's the mall, isn't it? [ Was it weird this was the most normal hang-out session she'd had with a friend in more than a few months? ]

I hope you don't mind if I jump ahead a little :O showbizpanache November 16 2011, 07:49:39 UTC
When you're a high-energy performer like I am, coffee is a must.

[Kurt doesn't walk so much as strut, and he takes her around to a few more locations before leading the way to the subway.

The subway's a bit crowded which isn't ideal for conversation, but they have their coffees with which to occupy themselves. They arrive at the mall, which is just as busy despite it being a weekday.]

[ She imagines the subway must be what people in the bigger cities like New York had to endure every day. She never did visit the subways in New York; then again, she hadn't really been there for very long, only a few times to visit her biological family. And save the world.

The concept of a mall being underground - while a pretty smart idea, all things considered about the city - was just plain weird. It was cleaner than she expected it to be, and brighter. Much brighter. ]

Which store are we going to hit up first? [ She dumps her empty cup into a trash can by the entrance, looking over at Kurt. She had to say, he was a pretty good city guide. ]

Right up here... Aha! This one.

[He leads the way into his favorite boutique. Immediately he zeroes in on a rack of sweaters near the entrance.]

Okay, this color? Perfect for you. [He holds it up against her, then hesitates.] Do you want to just window-shop and plan outfits for today? You'll have to rebuild your wardrobe, you know. [That and find a job and make living arrangements--but he doesn't want to overwhelm her just yet. The object of this game is to cheer her up, make her feel welcome.]

Yeah, that's fine. I'm kind of short on cash anyway. [ She only learned a little bit of money management from her parents, and even then she had to start over from nothing but the clothes she had on her back when she showed up in the baseball diamond. Taking it one day at a time would be the best strategy for her- for now, anyway. ]

Ooh, this is a nice color. [ She makes her way to a shelf of long-sleeved shirts, her eyes on the light blue color. ]

[He looks around the store a bit, and returns to her with an armful of assorted shirts and sweaters that he can mix and match when he gets home. One can never have anough, after all.]

See something you like?

[ Very true.

Claire turns her head towards Kurt, one of the shirts she had been looking at in her hands. She had made her way to another shelf, a rack of jackets next to her. Nearly everything in the boutique was adorable; if she had the money, she'd probably buy it all. ]

Yeah- everything. I'll definitely have to visit this store once I get some money. [ She had the money from the Newcomer Fund, but she'd rather that went towards food first, then clothing. Though she had broken down and bought a straightener once she'd gotten the money... ]
