[Fai stood to the side of the stage for a moment, then stepped over to sit on the edge, legs crossed with the slit of his costume revealing fishnet stockings clear up to mid-thigh.

He smiled, cerulean eye bright with mischief as he dropped his head to the side, long pale blond strands sliding across the eyepatch.]

So, tell me... would anyone like to hear a tale about a brother's revenge?

[ Caster has one hand clasped over the opposite wrist as she tilts her head attentively in response. As she shifts to face him, the silk fabric of her dark blue kimono rustles softly. ]

I'll admit that you have my interest. What is this about?

[Fai's smile is friendlier for a moment as she speaks, and it's an automatic response to slip of the edge of the stage and give her a proper courtly bow, smooth and graceful.]

I must first say that you look lovely as ever in that costume, Miss Caster. As for the story...

[He slides back into his seat, legs crossed, and leans back on his hands as his eye drifts up to the ceiling for a moment.]

It's a tale of two young brothers, abandoned during the harshest winter. Crops had been meager and people everywhere were struggling, scraping by to survive... and yet, these poor boys were happy, because they had each other, kept warm by always having each other by their sides.

[A beat, before he glances back down to meet her gaze.]

...Would you like to hear more?

[ At his initial words, Caster smiled appreciatively, albeit with a hint of surprise edging her eyes. She wasn't accustomed to receiving compliments quite so arbitrarily, and if he hadn't began his tale, she would have most certainly thanked him. However, she listened without interruption, answering when he prompted her with a question. ]

By all means, please continue. [ She lightly inclined her head in an accompanying affirmative. ]

Well you see... these boys were out, trying to dig small branches out of the snow so that they could start a fire in the little hollow where they'd been hiding, when a snowstorm blew out of nowhere. They got lost trying to find their way back, but then... a light beckoned them closer. It turns out it was an inn - they were so relieved that they rushed inside, despite their fear of adults, and huddled close together near the fire.

[He leans closer, voice dropping just a note as his expression grows grim.]

But despite their attempts to remain unobtrusive... well there was this one man. He was huge - not to mention older, drunk, mean as they come. One of the brothers, the younger one, accidentally dripped water on this old codger's boot. He started yelling at the boys, words slurred and face purpling in rage over a slight that had only ever happened in his head. The other patrons were too scared to say anything against him...

Not even when he shoved the older brother into the fire when he tried to protect the younger.

[ Caster pressed a hand against her chest, eyes growing just a little bit wider. ]

Oh, my...

Oh, but he didn't stop there - every time the boy tried to escape the fire, he was kicked back in while the younger brother cried and tried to go to him. The poor thing was shoved back every time, and with his dying breath, the older told him to run. And so, when he saw that big hand coming towards him, he did.

[A beat, before he continues softly, mournfully.]

Right out into that storm. He got lost immediately after sliding onto the road and to this day, his body's never been found. The older brother's body, too, disappeared that night...

[ Caster kept her eyes on his, well-immersed into the tale as she gave a light nod of her head to encourage him to continue. After all, it couldn't possibly end without the brother having his revenge like Fai mentioned when he first began. ]

But you see... several nights later, once the storm had died down...

[He leans closer, blue eye intent on hers as he drops his voice a little more, the tone soft and lilting.]

That same man had been stumbling home from the same tavern, drunk as usual, when he a sudden breeze picked up. The wind was harsh, unforgiving, blinding him for a moment... and when he was able to open his eyes, it was to find a lone wolf barring his path. Only this wolf? Like no other. Nearly as tall as the man, it had eyes that burned with blue fire and teeth that glimmered in the starlight as it snarled at him.

He was frozen in fear for a moment, right before it snapped at him! He tried to run! But when he spun around, it was to find the ghost of the child he'd killed barring his path, wreathed in flames, just standing there, blocking his path before he felt the hot breath and sharp bite of teeth shredding into him.

[A beat as he leaned in a little more, single eye wide and voice no more than a whisper.]It's said that all they found of him was the blood- ( ... )

[ Caster let out a soft breath, nearly like a subdued gasp. ]

My...you really do know how to tell a tale. [ Moving her hand from where it pressed against her heart on her chest, she clasped it over her opposite wrist once more. ] It's quite chilling.

[ She smiled, softly. ] Where did you hear it?

Ah...but I never said it was a tale that I'd heard, now did I?

[He let that hang between them for a moment before laughing softly and leaning back, a small smile curving his lips.]

Actually, it's an old village tale from my home, Celes Country. And much as it's myth, there really is some debate on the apparitions themselves. Personally, I've never seen them. But thank you - I'm glad I could entertain you for the moment, Miss Caster~

Eh?

[ During that suspension of silence, Caster seemed clearly uncertain about whether it was merely a jest or not. However, when his laugh soon settled the issue as she let out a soft chuckle herself. ]

It's fitting for the holiday of Halloween. But, now I'm curious. What is Celes Country like?

Beautiful, and cold, and more stunning than a sunrise.

[Fai's smile doesn't shift, though he does blink rather slowly with the admission. It was fine, to say this much. So long as he was careful.]

We don't have seasons like this place - it's always covered in ice and snow, but there's a beauty to it unlike any other. Absolutely unparalleled, no matter the dimension.

That really does sound magnificent.

[ Imagining it alone made it sound simply lovely. Yet, on that note, sympathy faintly flutters along her visage. ]

It must be difficult to be away from your homeland for so long. How long have you been here in the city?

Here? Only a few months.

[He shrugs and rocks back a bit, then offers her a small smile - quite diligently ignoring that hint of sympathy.]

I've lost track of how long my friends and I have been traveling between the dimensions. It's hard to keep up when time moves differently between them.
