Lois.

It was his whole world now, the word repeated and repeated in his head, and he concentrated past the wild cacaphony of sounds that rushed in unstoppered when he couldn't see. A combination of the EMP and his heat vision had rendered him blind, and Clark forced himself to focus past the main, to block out every sound except the one that kept him human; Lois Lane's heartbeat.

He found it, beating faster than usual, and immediately he turned toward it, leaving the ground, hovering higher until he was sure - not certain, but hopeful - that he was above the buildings. There was screaming below, but he could do nothing to help them; not like this.

Focus on the heartbeat, don't let it out of your mind.

Down to just the heartbeat, the concentration that it took to fly, Clark flew across the city at low speed, both hands out in front of him to catch anything before he put his head through it. He was flying blind now, without anything but the sound of the heartbeat and--there, the squeak of the loveseat on the roof. Triangulating between the two, Clark flew down, his own heart leaping into his mouth.

He hit the roof rather than landing on it, his feet crumpling underneath him as he midjudged the distance. Now he just had to find the stairway, his key, his apartment. Easy, right?
