Who: You! Everyone! Open! When: Night of the 7th. Where: All over the Port. Summary: The EMP event has begun. There are no sirens. What will your character do? Warnings: Violence, please note in comment headers to be added
It was like any other Friday, really; Soma finished up his homework, packed everything away, closed up the windows, and then changed for work that evening. Only problem was, he didn't realize that he was running a little later than usual, and that he would not be able to make it to Fangtasia before the sirens.
The fact that they never sounded didn't help.
He was a block away when he felt the creeping, crawling feeling on the back of his neck, a feeling he was sadly used to. Soma felt his blood chill as he reached into his pocket for his utility knife -- his only means of defense. It was too early, right? Things shouldn't be lurking about just yet...
Curious, he went to check his NV for the time... only it was completely dead. He stopped in his tracks, pushing buttons in a lame effort to get it working again.
...and that's when he heard the shuffling sound.
Soma tried not to panic -- if he panicked he was dead, or he could be seriously hurt. But still, he could feel the unsettling feeling welling up in his chest as he bolted down the street, running for the nightclub as fast as his legs could carry him.
Elaine Belloc knew something was wrong. She wasn't blind to miss the subtle changes in the fabric of reality around her once the sunlight faded. How the darkness intensified and the Darkness appeared, but there were no Sirens. No Warnings. She frowned while she stopped on the middle of a street. She could be anywhere she wanted to. Her mind took her there.
She saw a young man racing on the streets, towards the path she was on.
Something was following him.
"Over here."
It wasn't interfering. It was pointing out the building at her left had Darkness proofed protection and it was open. Now.
Soma let out a grateful noise, changing direction to the building she pointed out to him. He was halfway to her when the monster chasing him emerged from the shadows: a Spitter. It craned its head back, before hacking out a large wad of lava.
Soma glanced back just in time, ducking and rolling on the ground, the tail of his coat just barely getting nipped by the super hot wad. He fumbled back to his feet as the creature repositioned itself, trying to get a better shot at him and taking it, just narrowly missing Soma again as he took off.
"What about you?!" he called to the woman as he got closer, looking like his heart had just leapt up to his throat and was pounding loudly from there.
When she saw the Spitter emerged, she told herself that this was a good time to become intangible. Elaine Belloc was about to do that. Corporeal forms were just constructs, after all. But she waited until the boy reached her position more or less safe and sound.
Well, that was the original plan. Of course they kept making choices that she wished they didn't do. His question was one of them. She couldn’t make him worried if she disappeared like a ghost, could she?
"I'll be right behind you," she promised, gesturing towards the building. "Go!"
Soma nodded and turned to move for the building, when he spotted something shuffling near the house. He let out an alarmed noise as a familiar inhaling sound reached his ears, shoving her away as he fell back himself. A ball of acid flew over where he was laid prone as another spitter shuffled into view, blocking their escape.
Soma pulled himself up to one knee, gritting his teeth. Dammit, they needed to get in that building, or they were in serious trouble. He would never admit it out loud, but he'd give anything to be able to use a Skeleton Soul to throw bones at these creeps.
Elaine could have stopped the critter, but she did not want to unless she had no choice left. She guessed that being tackled down to the floor because the Spitter hurled acid at them could qualify as one of those moments. She pulled herself up without sign of visible alarm and, in a fraction of a second, considered what choices she had left.
Plan B.
She wanted to avoid a fight and hurting the monster. That was for sure. She couldn’t stomach harming a life like that. Unless he did something, he was doomed.
Why was she overcompensating for what happened to Bruce earlier?
“Yeah,” she uttered, trying to reach for his forearm. She had to get him out of there. “Hold onto me.” Unfurling two, bright white wings might not be the best way to not call attention, but it served as a double edge to blind the creature and to fly him away from danger.
Soma grabbed her when he saw her reaching for him, holding on tight at her request. If he was bothered by the fact that she suddenly had wings, he didn't show it.
In all honesty, after everything else, angel wings were pretty tame.
The spitters hissed at the brightness, backing away and spitting at them angrily, though their shots were wide as they couldn't see to aim properly.
The most difficult part about being omnipotent had to be keeping the tabs that the unlimited Power wouldn’t spill over to cause disaster. Elaine held him gently as she flew away from the Spitter. The light emanating from her wings was able to shield them from the creature’s poorly aimed wide shoots.
She landed on the rooftop of the building, nearby the door. If it wasn’t open before, it was now.
“No, I’m not,” Elaine said, offering him a faint smile. “You’ll be okay as long you stay there.” She made a lengthy pause to word her answer. She couldn’t and didn’t lie, but…she had filled her interference quota. “If I did, I wouldn’t say a word about it.”
"I guess it wouldn't be weird to say I understand then," Soma replied, something like a smile coming to his face, though he sobered quickly. "Thank you again."
He started for the door after that, hoping whomever was in this building did not mind him hanging out until he could get his NV working again.
“Thanks,” Elaine said and she meant it. It helped her to deal with the balance between inaction and action. Even if each decision she took felt lacking. “You’re welcome.”
The door was closed after she finished and she was gone from the rooftop and from the area.
The fact that they never sounded didn't help.

"Is there a plan B?"
