Who: Ivan, Kotetsu and possibly Karina When: September 26th Where: Kotetsu's flat in the starter appartments Summary: Ivan Origami needs a mask and clearly Kotetsu is the man to go to! Warnings: Derp.
The voice easily broke through Kotetsu's thin concentration as he sat on his bed, surrounded by stacks of dog-eared library books. The distraction was a relief, really-- he could try a studying montage all he liked and summon every bit of his motivation to study for the police force entry process and pull the most intense look of focus possible... but the words swam on the pages and he couldn't apply himself for more than a few minutes at a time. He heaved a sigh and stood up to answer the door, hair ruffled merely from his own exasperated hands running through it.
"Origami?" His workmate looked concerned, and a stack of books collapsed loudly behind him as he opened his door a tad. Part of him was nearly worried for whatever he needed to help out with, the rest, just eager to escape the mundanity of studying. "What's the problem? Wanna come in?"
Hearing the books fall, Ivan bit his lip and glanced behind Kotetsu to see what he'd been up to. "O-oh, if you're busy I can come back another time!" He said, quickly, holding up his hands. He didn't want to disturb him! The plastic bags he was carrying rustled as he moved, various papers and pens peeking out of the top.
"It's just that, ah, I was wondering if you'd help me make a mask. I've been thinking about it since Miss Blue Rose got here, and I realised I'm the only one of us without any way to hide their identity, but I don't know the best way to make one. Yours seems to work really well."
"Not at all, not at all-" As he shoved the door back with a shoulder to make more space in the doorway, the rustling bags swinging from Origami's wrists caught his eye. His expression lit up slowly with realisation as he explained, arms folded.
"Ahhh, because you usually wear that helmet, don't you? At HeroTV events and such. And the girls just have their contact lenses and wigs..." Kotetsu pondered, rhythmically bouncing the door back with his heel, a second pile of law books tumbling down from the bed. He didn't bat an eyelid at that, either, he really needed a distraction. "So-? An eyemask like mine, huh? Come in, come in."
Flinching faintly as another set of books came tumbling down, Ivan nodded at what Kotetsu said, and then slid into the room. "I didn't know what would work best, so I got everything that looked useful." He said, glancing around for a space to put the bags down. "I drew some ideas up, though!" Rummaging through the bag, he came out with a piece of paper with some rather scruffy looking drawings. At the top was one rather familiar as his old helmet, along with a quickly scribbled reference of his old suit, but the rest were... well some of them looked like they might have been stolen from some of the shows he used to watch back home. And by no means was he an artist.
"What do you think?" He asked, sounding unsure and a little desperate. He hadn't shown his drawings to anyone in real life before, though he did used to upload them online at home.
Kotetsu squinted at the drawings, carefully reaching out to take the paper in hand as he let the door swing shut behind him. When the company is the one to design your outfit, artistic ability isn't required, you can't pick what you want specifically (unless your status and tastes were like Fire Emblem's); but Origami's pencilwork was, it, somehow-- was...
"Still goin' with the samurai theme, huh?" he cracked a half-smile, trying hard not to think of the scribblings he and his brother used to do as kids in front of the TV. Once he got past the actual style of the pictures he could see ninja stars, yukatas, a whole range of new Japanese stuff clearly lifted from a tourist guide. A hand drifted to his chin, stroking his beard in serious thought-- "But did you want an eyemask, or a whole outfit, because this is... kinda complex."
"Of course! Origami Cyclone couldn't be based on anything else but Japanese culture!" For a moment his eyes lit up, thinking about all of the amazing things he could include in his costume, but then he remembered he was just trying to make a mask and calmed himself down. That would come later, when he found a new company. For now, he'd just concentrate on something to hide his identity so he could work on making a name for himself again.
"Just an eye mask." Ivan said quickly. Leaning over, he pointed out a drawing in the bottom right hand corner that looked to be a combination of most of the others. "I was thinking something like that, but... I was just trying to think of ideas. I don't mind what it looks like as long as it works." And as long as it was Japanese like, of course, but that went without saying, right?

"Huh..." The second design definitely had traces of Origami's Hero suit peeking out from layers of traditional designs. Not that Kotetsu could copy it directly from memory, but it was recognisable enough-- well. He could tell where the sponsors' names were, anyway. With a glance to the bags overflowing with rolled-up paper and lumps under the plastic, he nodded vaguely.
"Well, first thing to do is, ah-" Clearing the floor of various books and food wrappers with a few kicks, he sat down on the carpet, producing his eye-mask from a shirt pocket. This was... probably the best starting-point. "-let's get the basic shape down. Throw me a pen, Origami."

Eyeing the books as they where kicked aside, Ivan might have told Kotetsu off for the way he was treating them if he was braver. He could understand being a man of action rather than books; Ivan would have said that he was the same, but he still respected books. But, as usual, he didn't dare, especially when Kotetsu was going to help him. Following him into the newly cleared space, he put his bags down, and then knelt in front of Kotetsu.
"A-ah okay." Rummaging through the bags, the first pen that came to hand was a black marker. "Do you want something to draw onto as well?" He pushed the bags forward a little, offering them to Kotetsu to help himself from.
"...Ah, yeah, you're right." Well, he had just assumed that he could draw straight onto the sheet but on second thoughts, considering Origami's offer, a new paper was probably better than scrawling over the design they were going to use...
He leant across in his cross-legged position to grab a rolled-up sheet of paper, plain white on both sides, laying it as flat as he could (eventually resorting to using a couple of small dictionaries as paperweights) over the floor. Then, pen in hand and mask held against the paper, Kotetsu drew roughly around the shape in one wobbly line-- it was either that or his precision would end up failing at the worst moment and the permanent ink would smudge over his only mask. Even so, he made it seem like a difficult task, rounding it off with a decisive squiggle where the eye-holes would have been once he lifted the mask away. "There! That's our base."
Settling down, Ivan helped Kotetsu to lay out the paper a little clumsily, occasionally getting in his way as he wasn't sure where to move. He held down his side and watched Kotetsu draw round his mask. All right, so when he pulled it away it wasn't perfect, but... they could work on it.
Reaching into the bags, he pulled out foam and fabric, along with a few sheets of card. "I didn't know what would be best to use as a base." Come to think of it, for all that the cardboard would be easier to work with it wouldn't be very good in the rain. He set that aside again and just looked at the foam and the fabric. "What do you think? What's yours made out of?"
"May I?" Ivan asked, reaching out for Kotetsu's mask. He'd seen it plenty of times before, but he'd never really looked at it. The same went for all of their costumes, at that. They were just... there. He'd never thought into how they were made. That was someone else's job.
Kotetsu quirked an eyebrow, handing over the mask. "Depends on what you want it to do, I guess? It's a lot like my old suit, you know, the floppy one-- they kept it that way for my image, I think." The mask only came after the company revamped his look and his Hero suit-- honestly, he hadn't thought about it much, he'd just gone with it. Simpler than putting the suit on for every event, anyway. "Since you have that helmet that just covers your face, card'd work alright, but if we're talkin' about an eyemask..." He scratched at his neck thoughtfully.
"I asked Doc Saitou about it when he was makin' it for me. He said it was a polyheda-oligo-...nano techo ... ehh, nanoplastic. Didn't hear him that well!" Apparently making a mask for his expressive face required something of that calibre, though all Kotetsu really noticed about it was that it kept its shape even if he rolled it up. Either way, it didn't sound like a substance Origami would have in the bags of material.
Taking the mask, Ivan turned it over in his hands, examining it. He should really have known better than to expect that he could recreate something like that with a bit of foam and PVA. Still... He needed something. Looking a little disappointed, he handed it back.
"I just need something to hide my identity." He said, looking at the sketch on the paper again, then turning it around. He drew round what Kotetsu had drawn to neaten up the lines. "As long as it works... I can adjust it to work." He went back to his bag to look for scissors and then paused. Of all the things that he'd forgotten... "Do you have scissors?"
"Origami?" His workmate looked concerned, and a stack of books collapsed loudly behind him as he opened his door a tad. Part of him was nearly worried for whatever he needed to help out with, the rest, just eager to escape the mundanity of studying. "What's the problem? Wanna come in?"
