[No training today, but she is sitting outside the public library and going through her books. Then she gets into her costume and goes rooftop running well into the night, eventually keeping watch over Sector Ten.]

There's a teenage girl wearing a scaled gold necklace who is copying some songs out of a library book neatly and quickly by hand.

She spots the girl and watches her curiously, unsure of what she's doing. She sips the tea she got earlier, finishing it off. She'll need to get some more soon.]

The necklace twitches, and the girl reaches into her hair with her left hand while she continues to write with her right.

[That Thursday night, Jack is carefully walking around the rooftops, keeping to the middle. Every so often there's an odd sort of noise, high-pitched, a whine. He carries a knife in his hand and is glancing around warily, looking for monsters.

He has something looking like two hearing aides in his ears; worn around his neck is a small button that he keeps pushing with his free hand.]

[She's seen him on the network. He's the boy who said he was blind. But here he is, walking around on the rooftops... That's not safe. But he's wearing something, too, and it catches her eye when she swings down nearby. The whine seems to be attracting some of the wrong kind of trouble, which is why it's probably smart that he's carrying that knife.

Black Bat takes out one of the batarangs she has and tosses it at the Icarus Winged from a distance, getting it right between the eyes before it gets too close. It doesn't even get to the rooftop Jack's on.

She jumps down near him. Her voice, when she speaks, is imposing and strong.]

You shouldn't be out here.

[cowboy_newsie]

[He turns and presses the button. The nosie sounds, the sonar bounces off of her-- a girl. Right. But not a girl he recognizes, which is strange. His fingers tighten around his knife.]

Wasn't aware I had a babysitter. Who are you?

[bodyreads]

A friend.

[He's looking at her but not...at her? It's hard to explain. He's not focused on her face or her eyes. He's just looking at the whole of her. She raises a hand briefly in peace.]

You should be inside.

[cowboy_newsie]

I don't even know you. But I'm not goin' inside. I'm not gonna relearn how to fight inside.

[bodyreads]

[Relearn? Out here? That's a bad idea, especially if he's blind. He can easily be ripped apart. Cass tilts her head slightly.]

Why can't you learn inside?

[cowboy_newsie]

Because there's no monsters.

[bodyreads]

[Some would beg to differ on that point.]

So? You can learn with people.

[cowboy_newsie]

I'd rather learn with monsters. Who are you?

[bodyreads]

[She shrugs briefly. It's a fair enough point.]

Black Bat.

[cowboy_newsie]

Any relation to Batman?

[bodyreads]

[She gives him a sound of affirmation, though she doesn't elaborate on it at first. Then she adds, simply:]

We have similar goals.
