It took Mary a few days to be entirely comfortable with going very far in the city alone. Somehow, the idea of getting lost in this place wasn't exactly appealing. But after a while she was confident enough to take that entirely strange (if earnest) Jinx girl up on her shopping offer. Heck, maybe having something other than two pairs of jeans and four boring shirts to wear would cheer her up a little. All she had to do was find the girl and they could get this thing started.

Not that Jinx had given her much to go on. They made their little date without Mary having ever seen her on video or in pictures. I'll be the pregnant one drinking coffee, she'd said, and Mary supposed that that was really all you needed to pick someone out of a crowd. The problem was, Mary had never been in the Underground Mall before. She was so absorbed in looking around at the food court (and maybe a little lost in thought) that she walked almost right by Jinx's table without really noticing her.

Meanwhile, the sorceress caught sight of Mary the moment she entered the food court. It took her a moment to react, determining whether or not that was actually the woman she was searching for, but it wasn't long before she confirmed it. As the blond walked toward--by Jinx's table, she prepared to pull herself up from her chair.

Easier said than done. Gravity was cruel and so was her spine. These past few months had been the most uncomfortable of her life, and she'd had both her legs broken.

"Mary!" she called out, using the table for leverage to get to her feet. "Hel~lo! Over here, blondie."

At the startling sound of her name being called nearby, Mary whipped around in surprise-

-and promptly jumped back and almost tripped over her own feet with a strangled yelp of "Oh my g-"

She cut herself off there, remembering belatedly that oh god, that kind of thing happens here, doesn't it? It wasn't like home and it would be incredibly rude to stare at the gray person standing in front of her. Rude. Yes. Mary was pretty sure rudeness was bad. Staring, too. Right ( ... )

It had been a while since the last time Jinx had gotten that reaction. So long, actually, that it was startling. Her left foot slid back, ready to put her in a stance and she had to remind herself that gripping her coffee that hard would not end well. After blinking a few times at Mary, she managed to relax, albeit awkwardly. Back in the day when people would freak in her presence frequently, she would play it up. Now, she wasn't sure what to do aside from give the woman an awkward smile and wow did Jinx have some sharp rows of teeth.

A hand moved to her hip and she held her coffee on top of her stomach. If she liked this woman less, there were a lot of horrible ways Jinx could respond. Hour long lectures about racism, offended stares, just rolling her eyes and walking away, or freaking her out even more. It took her a moment or two to actually decide which card to play.

"So, what got you first? The skin, the eyes, or the claws? Or were you just freaking because you thought I was dying my hair while I'm pregnant? FYI, that's real ( ... )
